CL v. Si ?

were the civic Si's underrated when it comes to horsepower? i have never driven one, or raced one, but i see many stories of our 2.3/3.0's gettin spanked. just seems like unless you have a turbo, swap, or spray you're done. Si's have 160 h.p. right?? so what kind of gains do they get with I/H/E ?? is the DOHC the reason for their response to these mods? i have a 2.3 and i was planning on doing the I/H/E all in the spring, but what kind of gains will i get? am i better off saving for a faster car, or will i notice a difference in power?? sorry for all the questions, i saw a group of civics driving around tonight... and i guess i was wondering how quick they really are (and if they really were Si's or just a bunch of Ex's with badges and fart can mufflers!!) any answers would be great.

i though our cars could keep up with SIs up to like 70mph also depends on the driver if your a dirty driver you can pulll of miralce.

the reason for their quickness is the DOHC and their gear ratios. there is someone around me locally that pulls on my with an Si (temporarly though, built H22 soon to be installed), and for some reason when he's punching it hard there is fire dripping from his muffler as if there is unburnt fuel, I don't know what that is! Has anyone seen that happen before?

I raced my friend 9 times in one night. He has an SI with similiar mods. He'd get the jump on me off the line, but by 40-50 we'd be even, all the way through 70-80, then I walk him every time.

For the record, I didn't power brake that night because I knew it would be drawn out...Our trannies don't like consequitive street runs like that.

The SI is very very driver biased. He's had his SI since he was 15 and he races all the time...So yes, he knows how to drive the hell out of his car.

my friend has a 00 si. i had i/h/e/p drop i could just barely keep up with him stock to 80, but after he got an intake and exhaust after 60 he leaves me in the dust. its not even funny. they will walk you every time depending on the driver. a 3.0 cl would be a pretty even match or a very modded 2.2 or 2.3 w i/h/e and more.

si's are weird. peoplepost low 15 second times with them with just minor bolt ons, but i've beaten quite a few i/e si's with no problem. Maybe those guys couldn't drive. They do usuallystart to pull back by 3rd gear though, but i always beat them so bad off the line that they can never get back ahead before 4th gear. I've even raced a 03 si from a roll w/ i/e and it was pretty dead even. Only problem is that there is way more parts for those cars, so watch out.

BTW-i have a 2.3 manual w/ e/i/h. With this you shouldn't have a problem with e/i si's, but anyting more could spank you. Just rave them to about 60-80 then stop because after that they WILL PULL AHEAD.

i hope your not saying a tiburon or however u spell it
those are the slowest, my friend has one(v6) with SRI and i have the 2.3 5spd with just a CAI and he has yet to beat me off the line or top end, and ive raced him at least 20 times and he is a good driver, hell we even switched cars and my car romped his
i stay even with an Si with Cai and exhaust though, i pull off the line but in 2nd and 3rd we are nose-to -nose

my friends grandpa has a v6 sonata and it's a dog! I beat him on the freeway with my 2.3 with e/i/h. Off the line it would be a massacre!

His is like the 98-00ish style. Not the brand new one. I have no clue about if the motors are different. Hopefully they are or your si friend sucks at driving.

those 98-01 Si isn'ta that fast. I was pulling on those with my 92 Si stock D16Z. I saw an 03 Si pull away from a RSX-S on the highway....the new Si are fast.

no dude, the new si is no faster than the 99-00 si. It has like 12 more torque or something, but it's heavier so it evens out. If you saw an 03 si pull on an rsx-s, then it had alot under the hood because the 03 si motor is the same as the
base mode rsx
03 si=160hp
00 si=160hp
rsx=160hp
rsx-s=200

I have both actually, my dad has an 00 and it's slow as fuck compared to the 02. The engine on the new one is just a bit more powerful I think it has like 20 hp more(40 lb-ft more torque thou i think), but the old one has a very retarded computer and it takes it forever to figure out that it should be going fast when you floor it. I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said it has a full 2 second delay. The new one also has an advantage of having a tiptronic tranny as opposed to the normal auto on the older one.

But isn't the 03 Si lighter than the RSX-S? Well i know what i saw too bad i wasn't in my CL else i'll gun it and check em out closer. When i had my 92 Si that shit was fast as hell with only 125hp. I was raced a 92-95 Civic EX coupe and the dude was spray to catch up. IMO Si's is the shit even those old CRX and Civic Si with no VTEC was fast.

They're decently quick all things considered, but my current vehicle is just an engine swap away from eating any and all of them for lunch. (it is also an engine swap that will never happen, since my chassis is about to go, which is why I want to buy a CL to begin with )

it probably felt faster than it actually was. my friends b16crx feels like a rocket when your in it, but it isn't even that quick. And those old civics and crx's with no vtec aren't fast at all.

03 si=2744lbs
rsx-s=2767lbs
rsx=2474lbs

so not really, the si's 23lb weight advantage will not make up 40hp and 10tq.

either the rsx you saw wasn't a type s, or the si was heavily modded. Which could easily be possible.
