CD Player won't play burned CD's
I did a search first, and I couldn't find a definite answer.
I have the stock '98 non-bose headunit. Lately (the past 2 months) the cd player hasn't been reading my burned cd's. At first it would make a loud cracking noise the entire time the cd was playing, and now it won't even load the cd's. It keeps saying p-eo and continues to spin the cd. I know it's not my cd's that are messed up, because they work in my other cd players. And cd's that I haven't burned (ones I bought) still work fine..
Do I just need to clean the cd player? Or is the cd player busted?
Thanks for the help guys.

I bought the car in Dec, and up until 2 months ago it was playing my burned cd's fine.
The majority of my cd's are burned, and I swear I'm gonna go crazy if I have to listen to the radio.

Have you changed the way you burn your CD's? or are you using a different burner? Some players have problems with CD's burned at high speed or by some CD burners.

In my experience, every cheap clearence cdr of any speed has worked in my cd player, but, It won't read any cdrw's I have tried (also bargan brand)
So basically, have you changed your cdr manufacturer lately.

yeah... thats happened to me in my 2003 cls... i think it may have to do with how the cd is burned.. or converted etc...
not sure...
but i guess the brand or quality of cd could also effect it...
keep us posted chick... would love to know the outcome..

Jen, is it only new CDRs that it won't play? Or will is also not play CDRs that it has played in the past? Have you switched to a new brand of blanks, new burner, new software? Do you remember what settings you had it on before (speed, track at once or disc at once, etc) and if they are changed now?

Using cheap disk's also is commonly the problem. The die on the disc fades, and some of the data can be erased, this will make it hard to read by the lazer.

I'm using Memorex blank cd's...cd's that played 2 months ago, will not play anymore. It doesn't matter what brand cd, it won't play. The only ones that will play are the cd's that I have actually bought.
I always burn them disc at once, 24 or 20x.

I bought a cd cleaner for the cd player, used it, and I'm still having the issues with my burned cds. I'm going to burn a cd tonight on a different brand than usual and at a different speed. Maybe that will work, but I doubt it (I didn't used to have an issue with any of my burned cds).
If the cd player really is busted, I will probably just end up getting a changer installed in the trunk. Is it hard if I have someone help me install it, or should I just pay shop to do it?
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I appreciate it.

My CD player on my 98 gives me the PEO error on all my CDs but that's usually only in the cold, works fine in the summer... Did you try playing them after your car has already warmed up, and also do you leave your CDs in the player when you turn your car off? My whole problem with getting a new CD player is that most of the aftermarket stuff just doesn't look as good as the stock. IMHO.

98clchick... do you have a royal radio out by you??
they installed a sub and an amp in my civic when i had it... and they did a bangup job...
there is a location in royal oak and rochester hills... they are good... i know you are out in GP, dont know any shops out there.... but I am sure your man and you could possible do it up..
I am no good with wires and such, so i have someone do it... but if you know someone who is handy with that type of thing... i think you guys could do it...

If you end up going to a changer, get the Alpine CHMS630 6 disc (or any 'M' series Alpine) with the proper adapter. This is the same as the OEM changer except you need the adapter. Installing is a matter of removing the stock deck to plug in the adapter, running a single cable to the trunk, and mounting the changer. If someone knows what they are doing it's like a 45 min. install (if that much).
The changer and parts will run you more that a basic in-dash, but you get to keep the stock HU.

It looks like I am just going to have a changer installed, and I'm going to have my bf help me put it in. And I figured as long as the dash is ripped apart, I might as well get a prelude shifter and put that in too. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
