cam gear/gas..

i am planning on getting a cam gear for my car. I know to retard the timing like 2 or 4 degrees for the best results. I will dyno the car when i get everything else in place like Fuel pressure reg. and the pullies. Right now its just going to be the cam gear. My question(s) is that:
1.will i feel any negative effects if i retard the timing? Does it lag on the low end. How does it make th car act?
2. WHat octane gas should i use for the RETARD. To my knowlege if u advance timing u should use higher octane. Is it opposite for retard and i should use lower octane like 87? Im not quite surewhat gas to use because the timing changes are in the intake and exhaust valves and not the spark timing but just wanna make sure anyway. sorry bout the long post.

You can see my dyno for the cam gear gains or losses per rpm on my website.

Stay with 87 octane. I've tried every kind of premium gas, octane additives and always go back to 87. Try it and find out for yourself.

I have the retard on the fourth notch = 8 degrees crank. I originally thought the notches were degrees and I have the wrong info on the dyno plots.

wow that quite a retard. 8 degrees is a lot. Any negative effects? I tried all the gas too. But my car is different. It goes best with 93 octane. It lags in low rpms with 87. Last night i went racing and added 104 octane boost and it gave me some pull. I was barely tapping on the gas and the car jerked. It pulled stronger on bottem end and gave me wheelspin with my heavy 18s and new tires. ......nice turbo by the way i know u have been waiting a while to get it.
