Build your own exhaust, Seems good idea?

I have been reading about building your own exhaust and what not how it can save a lot of money, so i was messing around at doing a dual 2.5in exhaust. Would that help, or hurt the cars performance? Read somewhere that too big of pipes will actually decrease performance.

Idea behind this would be single pipe until after the CAT, then a Y pipe leading into two 45degree mandrel bent pipes leading straight back into Hushpower 2 Resonators follow by Magnaflow straight through mufflers. With 2.5in piping in and out for all of the pipess, resonators, mufflers.

All of these parts would net me around 436 dollars. Having the local muffler shop wouldn't be too much, 100-200? Am i missing any important parts, or do i have any flaws in this design? Like doing it after the cat?

My aim is to have an aggressive rear end look, with the dual exhaust, with the added performance without getting way too loud. This is all just a sketch up of the idea from reading, and looking at base parts. If the piping was too short, the shop should be able to add some scrap piping to lengthen the straight areas till they fit.

Opinions? Experience?

I wont be able to afford this for a while But once i have the idea set in stone, with all the details worked out, its just a case of saving.

2.3 + dual 2.5" =

you wanna lose the rest of the torque that you dont have?

2.25 and no dual then you'll be fine..

Searched around and came up with this:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...0+exhaust+size

You should find some good info on custom exhaust setups there.

Personally I think to really get what you want you need to do a custom, that's why I've been gathering pieces for an exhaust for so long

Seriously. The OEM Muffler is the only that really sits well with me. Im not hating those with mufflers you got 5 speed Intake/ Headers/ ok but that Fat single pipe does not do it for me. Some of them are ok.

If i were to put new headers and intake with stock muffler will i gain any power or a waste?

I think you would gain a little power... but you would add more and more backpressure. Stock OEM mufflers have lik 13-16psi i believe... Straight through design mufflers have like 3-6psi. You need a little for low end torque.

From what i've learned keep one pipe size throughout so you dont bottleneck. For pure performance get a straight through styled muffler and a resonator, 22" is good for our cars i have read. You don't have to get that N1 styled straight through muffler, Magnaflow has some that have all that anti noise stuff in it

The links up top i posted have the Hushpower2 resonator and the striaght through style Magnaflow muffler.
