Broken Seal

So a seal in my valve cover broke and now there is a bunch of oil in one of the spark plug holes. I was checking my spark plugs and when I pulled out the last wire a bunch of oil flew out with it.

I know I need to go out and buy a new seal, but what is the best way to get the oil out?

I'm debating on whether or not I should just take it to a shop and have them replace the seal and clean out the oil.

My dad's 93 accord had the same problem. I'd get that fixed asap, cuz one of his went then the rest progressively got worse. Me and my dad used a thin stick with paper towel wrapped around it to clean out the spark plug areas till he could get it to a shop. maybe that will work for you too.

Usually valve cover gasket and all four spark plug seals are replaced at same time. Felpro makes a nice kit that runs about $20-30 (haven't priced recently).

Oil in spark plug well is removed by putting a small suction line down inside the tube and suctioning w/ shop vac or engine vacuum source to pull the oil out. Then mop w/ a paper towel pushed w/ screwdriver to remove remaining oil before pulling plug. Use anti-sieze (sparingly) on the plug threads to ease future removals.

Some 2.2L engines have additional orings under the rocker arms assy. I think all VTEC engines do not. These extra orings are included in Felpro kit if you need them.

good luck
