Brand New Alternator...dead???
niedejb, and I installed a brand new alternator last weekend on my 3.0. IT was a simple application, however yesterday, my battery light came on!! I went to AutoZone and they told me my alternator was ....I have a warranty, I can send it back....however going...my question is.....could this alternator be malfunctioning if there is a bad ground??
I ask this because it is a 180 AMP alternator using the stock ground wire, I noticed it is a smaller gauge wire and has substantial corrosion.
Should I try to replace the ground first or just pull it and send it back to that guy on ebay? ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...409053525&rd=1 )
I know a few of you guys on here bought from him....how was your experiences with his product?
Does my system have anything to do with it?!?! I have had systems before and never killed alternators like this! IT's BRAND NEW!!
I would really hate to pull it and go through tha hassel of being without a car again!!!

Are you still getting 14.4 volts at idle?
It may not be the alternator. Could be somewhere else.
Dont think the wiring is the issue, but thats my $.02

Not anymore. The meter at Autozone said around 11.6 at idle. I have to rev it to like 4000 rpms to get the battery light to go off.
Im leaving on vaca. tomorrow, Ill screw with it when I get back.
You say it may be somewhere else? What other places should I check? My battery appeared to be in good shape.
It wouldn't have anything to do with swapping out the stock pulley with the new pulley it came with? Dust said he did, and had no probs.... remember? Oh well.
Atleast its not as bad as a seized bolt on the last strut during a spring install where you have to cut the stock strut off and spend 14 hrs+ drilling through the steel bolt it to get it free!! Of course, you wouldnt know anything about that...LOL

If you disconnect the stereo lead (+ running back to the trunk) does the light go off?
If its free, go back to autozone with everything disconnected and see what it reads. Should change if it is stereo related.

I re-grounded the alternator with 4 gauge wire and new connectors and disconnected the power lead to the stereo......light STILL ON. I checked all wires and plugs, nothing.
I cant think of anything else that we may have done wrong. Im going to call this guy now and see what I have to do to get another one...this sucks.
