Best Octane Gas For 6 Cyl 3.0???

Sorry Guys, i did a search and didnt come up with much...im just lookin for a short quick anwser...thats all....

So the whole time ive owned my car, ive used 89 octane....i thought 4cyl used 87....6 cyl used 89.....and V8+ used 92....but recently someone told me the 3.0 6 cyl could run just as fine or even better on 87 octane, not 89 like ive been using...

So whats the deal? Whats better, (im afarid if i use 87, the engine will knock or somethin bad will happen.)

Soooo all you guys with 6 cyl 3.0's....what type of octane gas do u use....is there any difference???

I use 87 in the CL and have no pinging. I read on another car board that if an engine was designed to run on 87 and you run 92 then it can actually hurt performance and mileage, not to mention wasting money. Not sure why that is but if your not pinging at 87, then it won't hurt to run that low.

I use 87 octane. I saw an article in a Road & Track or Car & Driver last summer where they tested different octane gas on an Accord V6. It had a graph and showed that it actually ran better on 87 rather than 89 or 93 octane. Ever since then, I've been on 87 and had no problems at all. I usually use Exxon or Chevron.

Our engines are made to run on 87 octane. This will give you the best mileage and performance.

I run 93 octane with my nitrous set-up. I'm paying $2.00 per gallon!

Damn your in fresno man im in turlock, we should meet up sometime and take some pics im going down that way to visit a friend maybe i can come check out your ride, what do you have done to it?

I just switched to 87....I've been running 93 since I bought the car.

At the time of the switch, I also put in a can of BG fuel-injection cleaner. I noticed a big difference in response. Now I'm nearly out of gas and it's less responsive. Normal with low fuel level.

Now with the pending war and gas price hike, I'm definitely sticking with 87.

I've used 87 since I've had the car. About once a month though I will fill up with 93. It keeps the injectors clean.

Its simple, High Octain is for high compression engines low octain for low compression engines. The 3.0, stock, is a low compression engine.

my buddy just bought some 100 octane from the 76 station here in town before it went up 20 cents to over 5.00. you can run 100, it will clean out your engine very well, i would only get about 5-6 gallons of it, but the guy said its good to clean out the engine every so often like that, he owns a 99 honda accord. but i used to buy 93 and just added a octane boost to it and my car ran fine

yes you can run 100, i use to at the track, until i found it it was absolutely pointless and just hurting the car.

What makes you think it cleans out the engine?

The only thing that'll clean your engine is leaded octane. But then your check engine light will come on. Or a carbon cleaner that a dealer can perform for like 2-3 bills.
