Talking Belated X-Mas Gift

Grabbed the Pioneer Avic-D3 about a week after Christmas, got it at about 60% off so it was a steal Other than custom mounting it inside the dash, the install went pretty smoothly (took about a half a day) and isn't as hard as it looks. If anyone's wondering where the VSS wire is to tap into for navigation, I've confirmed it is the blue and white wire behind the cruise control unit. Someone mentioned it a while back, but nobody seemed to know if it was correct. The unit works flawlessly so far, the only issues I've heard about is that the navi routing sometimes takes you in circles, but nothing like that has happened yet *knock on wood.* I forgot to take a picture of the GPS antenna, but i mounted it up on the dashboard where it hits the window on the driver side--perfect reception. I also went ahead and installed a PS2 under the driver's seat and into the auxiliary input, but that location is just temporary for now. Caught a few shots of GT4 as well. Tell me what you think...

I apologize for the crappy pictures, I just snapped a few before going in for the night.

Yeah I have to fix that nuisance, it should just take some minor adjusting of the trim plate though I think. I was also looking into a slim ps2 for the glove box as well, but like you said, I'm not gonna pay full price for one

They're cheap if you don't already have a ps2...Wtf am I gonna do with two ps2's? haha 360's and ps3's are exactly why I'm not wasting my money on a smaller version of the same, old thing

youre trying to say 360s and ps3s are the same old thing? haha ok have fun saying that playing forza in high def. theres a huge difference. and you can get a 360 for like 200$ on ebay now. ps2s are extremely outdated, to the point where theyre rarely making games for them any more. and on top of that the graphics are shit. and xbox isnt that bad, but its microsoft, so theyll stop making games for it so you buy a 360.

i just dont see the problem with spending another 100$ for something like 300 times better. and, you could be like me, and sell a ps2 on ebay! =]

I put an Eclipse AVN5510 Double Din Nav in my CL back in September. The VSS wire i used is the Blue/White that comes off the ECU under the passanger side floorboard. Works flawlessly!

Yea, the mounting for a double din in our car SUCKS!!

Put a chipped xbox under the seat. I have one with an Xecuter 3CE chip, 250GB hard drive, and it has a bunch of xbox/n64/snes/nes/genesis/ps1 etc games on it. Not only would you not have to go under your seat to swap discs, but I think it'd be better because no bump would mess up your discs.

you dont even have to chip your xbox, you can just softmod it and run xbox media center which will then playback pretty much ANY format that isnt HD onto your screen. The only issue is that the xbox is one big ass mofo

yeah soft modding has got really, really, really easy. bumps in the road or rotating the xbox could mess things up. usb hard drive ftw though.

Im In The Process Of Buying The Avic D3. Its A Great Unit For The Money. Its Biggest Flaw Is The Fact You Have To Switch Cds From Gps To Cd Because There Is Only One Slot. Ive Seen It For 575 On Lowpricedigital.com. Thats About As Cheap As Ive Seen The Unit For. Enjoy The Unit!!!!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Swapping discs isn't much of a setback with my 80GB iPod and the optional iPod ibus cable for full control, I just put all my movies and music on the ipod and never swap out the map disc. One reason I went for the front-loading DVD though was our shifter, now I don't have to worry about the unit tilting out and hitting the shifter when the car is parked (just to load a cd).

I got the D3 at a Best Buy, and then got about $250 off their employee price Just gotta know people in the right places...
