I was wondering what type to use for a 98 3.0. Thanks guys. Oh also how much guess I could read my owners manual but I'd rather get you guys to help don't have time to read right now plus I wanted to see if anyone has used like lucas or mobile one ect... tranny fluid and did it do ok or better than the original. Thanks again

Its early and I'm still half asleep, but if I am not mistaken this is one of those you have to use the Honda stuff. I don't know why but I think that is our only option for transmission fluid.

Get honda tranny fluid. this is one thing i've heard over and over not to "cheat" your car on. i'm not sure if it's more expensive or not, but you can get it at your dealer.

i used some synthetic tranny fluid, it was whatever the service tech at the dealership told me to use. either mercon or dextron whichever, it's been a minute...and my tranny runs better now than it ever did before. he even said don't worry about the honda fluid, just be sure it had the right additives.

Actually, it's because I beat on my car all the time, that's why it went out. You will actually notice your car shift better with synthetic fluids. I just switched to Red Line racing synthetic fluids...gonna see if it's worth the money. They say it's good for up to 70 degress above normal operating temperatures.

yea, but make sure that redline is made FOR honda trannies. If not, you got the wrong one.

yep, however there are 1 or 2 companies out there that do indeed make a decent tranny fluid for us. You just have to make sure you get the one that is honda specific.

Comptech recommends redline.

I've heard that Honda is the only company that designs there transmissions to use a silicone based fluid (as opposed to other lubricants). That's why only certain ones will work. Dextron III fluid is close but will cause too much heat bulid up (we don't need any extra help in this area!).

My opinion is to stay with the Honda product and limit the chances of the tranny failing......

after much deliberation I used amsoil synthetic.. very satisfied so far. it's also rated for honda (z-1 i think) so you should be okay w/warranty, etc.
and the honda atf is decent too. i just wanted something a little better with our glass trannys
