auto 2.2CL and 1991 MR2
last nite i raced one of my freinds. i have a automatic 97 2.2CL with AEM CAI. He has a manual 1991 MR2 with Ractive intake. i thought he was gonna win cuz we both got 2.2L engines and 145hp plus intake and his car is 3 or 4hundred pounds lighter than mine.
in the beginning it was really close. he would be ahead by barely anything and when he shifted i would catch up. i put it in 1,2,d3,d4 cuz it starts faster than just keeping it in d4 the whole time. when i got to d3, i flew ahead and that was that.
my first race. hopefully i can race more soon. i just need a license haha.

his was stick, right?
the non turbo mr2's are slow as fuck, theres a blue once that lives by me with full kits and a giant wing, I always rev on him but he won't race. He admits it's slow as hell!

Those mr2's, damn i have heard some horror stories with those things. Friends of mine in FLA have seen mr2's take almost anything on the road. You get a mr2 4g's, J-Spec rear clip 3g's, upgraded turbos/innercooler 2g's and install 2g's. Around 11g's you can have a LIGHT car with around 350 RWHP, my friend seriously looked into it, then bought a 68 mustang fastback to restore. I can't understand him? I have heard in FLA street racing, there are 2 or 3 mr2's that are unstopable. Anyone from FLA know anything about them/this????

it woun't hurt your tranny if you shift in an auto, as long as you aren't over redlining it-- BUT
it doesnt help with speed, its called gateshifting
and on auto CL's, it doesnt help with speed
what does work : powerbreaking and using D3, and shifting to 4 when you need to..
i read something about when you start in gear 1, it holds out too long in 1st gear or something.. or it automatically doesnt stay in gear one long enough can't remember

i dunno if youre right bout it not being faster but it sure feels like it. does starting in d3 and shifting around 5500rpm really make it faster? and what is powerbreaking?

power braking is holding the brake and the gas at the same time when you launch. On green you release the brake and it jumps harder off the line. Just keeps the rpms a little higher.
