Anyone else drive in d3 all the time?
I've been driving in d3 all the time since someone recommended it to me. Probally not a good idea with gas prices soo fukin high. But usually I stay between 40-50mph between 3-3700 rpm...is this too much? Or should I just keep it in d4?
Does this put any extra wear on anything? I figured it would be easier on the tranny instead of d3 -> d4 -> d3 all day when driving around town

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the only difference between d3 and d4 is that d4 allows it to go into overdrive. For most city driving it wouldn't make a difference. It may save your trans a little due to the smaller number of shifts, but the constantly higher rpms will wear on the engine more. The car was generally designed to be driven in d4 so thats what I'd reccommend but thats only my personal opinion.

well I can see where it could be better on the tranny as it isnt constantly going from 4th to 3rd and back to 4th again on the highway as you let off the accelerator and what not

I use the shifter sometimes in traffic or to decelerate for tight corners. And of course, I gate shift every now and then for the thrill, but general daily driving, I just leave her in d4. And now that gas prices are going up, I try not to let the vtech kick in. And when I am on the highway, sometimes for passing I'll drop from d4 to d3 at 70mph... Makes her kick down harder. Then I will ride d3 up to around 4800 and shift back to d4... that is about it... Oh, for mountains up hill I will often use d3 and going down, Pike's Peak, d2 and d3 to control speed... can't ride the breaks, or you will die. It forces the transmission to absorb the energy rather than building it up as heat in the break rotors. Have fun, and you won't hurt the transmission, unless you drive in d3 at high speed all the time. The highway down shift doesn't hurt because you aren't holding it there for long. Anyway good luck and have fun. Oh, redline is not the best thing to push our transmissions to... you will break it doing that eventualy.
