LOL most people that live here haven't been to the Riviera. If everything goes correctly and how we are hoping though, we may turn into a pretty cool place to hang out.

Come to think of it, there are a few hotels on the strip that I have never been in. Not gonna start now.... Avoid that place like the plague.

Just got done speaking with Acura of America's regional representative. First he came off saying that they would not warranty the car due to the age (8) years and the mileage 74,000. After arguing with him for a bit he realized that a family member is a Service Advisor with Honda. He is now going to review the claim again and get back to me due to a "friends and family" type situation. Hopefully this turns out in my favor... definitley going to be doing some heavy drinking tonight lol

Finally swapped the transmission!! It feels so good to be able to hit 2-3 and 4-5 above 70 and not grind a pound...
I just went with a used unit on my '97 (64K) and it ran me $825 installed.
It's like I got a brand new car!! I am aiming for 250,000 on this one. Of course, if I see that 1998 low mileage BMW M3 that may change...
This is a great forum and thanks to all for the opinions so far

CHECK IT OUT, I figured how to use an avatar...lol!

After fighting with Acura (and being told that I caused the transmission to fail) I ended up having Aamco tow the car from Acura and down to their shop. After they drove the car (car completely stopped moving at a light) and had to tow the car back, they realized that there was more going on than just the torque converter.
They took the transmission out and busted it open, looks as though the bearings from the second gear shaft came out and started bouncing around the transmission and got all shredded. The clutches were completely shot and one of the solenoids was burnt up. The drivers side boot was also torn. Total cost out the door $2671.69.
Should have the car back either Saturday or Monday. I decided to keep the car for the Aamco warranty (12 months, 12,000 miles) and then I'll probably sell. I only drive about 8,000 miles a year so luckily it will still be relatively low mileaged when I sell. I'm actually having thoughts of buying a Nissan Murano next time... I can't say too much for Acura's blaming me for their poor transmissions.

Yup, that's exactly what happened to mine, the bearings came loose and ran amuck ripping my gears apart, $2800 in rebuild, lasted me a year. G'luck with the rebuild, and if you're looking at muranos, I'd seriously recommend looking at 4Runners

The only reason for looking at the TSX is for the aftermarket support... I'd like to supercharge it and do a few other small things to it... I'd love a 6 speed 2004 + TL but the price is keeping me away.
As for the Murano... I like the utility of it. Would be great for hauling furniture for my new house...
I toyed around with the idea of keeping the CL... the idea was also put in my head for an H22 swap and going with the 5 speed...

Im really still contenplating getting rid of the cl. The list of crap I have to fix is getting to be too much. Here is my list.
Clutch
Passenger side door lock
(2) axels
camber kit
alignment
4 new tires.
A new car is looking way tempting to me right now.

Your 3rd brake light does not have a light in it if you have a wing. Your heated seat button has a little light in it that is probably burnt out.

Just FYI...
3rd gear on the auto is not dangerous on the highway, it tops out at like 120ish. That's your passing gear on the highway lol, it just burns gas up. Even second isn't THAT bad depending on how fast you are going. It tops at at 70ish at the rev limiter. Even if it got thrown into second from 80, it won't totally shit a brick. Second gear on a second gen CL is totally different, higher ratio...many guys have had that happen and it's not good at all.

From what I was told by both Acura and Aamco... the car probably slipped out of gear and into either neutral or second the RPM's were clear into the red by the time I got it off the road. With no brake lights and it being dark out with traffic going 75+ behind me... it could have been very dangerous...
The car did the same thing when the Aamco tech drove the car. He got the car through one intersection safely, then the car locked up again pulling away from the next light and from what I was told he nearly got rear ended by a vehicle behind him.

It probably went to second, and if you were doing 75-80 it def was past the rev limiter. Depending on your reaction to all this, like if you let off the gas, it would have dropped the car 10-15mph pretty quick - so ya that was dangerous, not to mention stressing the motor a wee bit.

I'm just interested to see how it drives after it's finished... I have always felt that the second gear shift seemed slow... sort of hesitant. Acura told me that was normal for a Honda. Aamco told me though that the car may have been struggling all along... I may have helped it by doing the drain/fill back in November.

Drain/fill shouldn't hurt anything, only power flushes and such. I drain/fill every 15k miles now, good condition fluid is very important in these stupid things.
1-2 isn't slow in my car at all (or any other shift for that matter). Our TCM is able to learn your driving style, and that has a lot to do with it. I push the car most of the time, and as a result my shifts are very quick and firm compared to most. If you baby my car around, it feels jerky. I've been in some other CLs/Accords that are babied most of the time, and they feel softer than mine when pushed hard.

I've never babied my car... I pretty much push it everywhere I go but that shift has always lagged and the car wasn't shifting until around 4,000 rpm's. I do have a feeling that the car was babied before though, I do know that the previous owner was a 55-60 year old man who owned the car from day 1.

I've noticed if you keep the same throttle position, the car pretty much shifts around the same RPM between different gears. My car shifts at 4,000 often from first. Did it shift sooner from second to third then?
Maybe the rebuild will be better for you. Mine felt great afterward, but I admit I couldn't remember exactly how it felt before as mine was kind of a slow death. They rebuilt it with Kevlar clutch packs, I think they grab faster. All I really cared about was the 3yr, 36k mile warranty. I'll def sell the car before that's up!

I don't think I ever really knew what the car was supposed to feel like because I personally think it was always wrong... kinda think Acura always thought I was just a dumb chick who didn't know what I was talking about.
I plan to sell the car too before my warranty is up... if something comes up and I decided to keep the car I'm doing the h22 engine and tranny swap...

Alright Update and I'm PISSED!
Went and picked up the car today from Aamco... $2500.00 total. Drove it for about 15 miles and low and behold, CEL light pops on and I'm getting a rough shift (i.e. feels like you are driving over the "braille" or rumble strips on the side of the road) from the first to second shift. Of course this happens after Aamco has already closed for the day... needless to say I'm now stranded without a car that runs decently. I drove the car back home this way and plan to call them in the morning.
Any ideas on this? My first thought was torque coverter (they supposedly replaced it)...

Supposedly the TCU was fine... they claim to replace anything thats wrong with the transmission whether they touched it or not... we'll see about that tomorrow when I call and bitch... renting a car at $55 a day is going to be their issue too... I'm not paying for shit now that they said that they fixed it and it drove great for them.

i had my CL tranny redone by aamco and its been great acutally, however- when i had them redo my 97 626 the day they gave it to me i was greatly dissappointed, the shifts when in horrible as hell and it was rough. i took the car to them the next day and found some sorta sensor had been put in backwards or something and they fixed it. after that no problems. both times (626 & CL) they had me come back after a week of driving for a after surgery checkup.
