Angry Another member of the Second Transmission Club

Driving down the highway last night at 80mph the check engine light comes on.. as I start pulling to the side of the road and slowing down the car started jerking violently. Got the car stopped turned it off and turned it back on, and it drove fine slipping in 2nd gear. Was only an exit away from home so I nursed it down the side of the road and to the house.

I got the codes pulled and it showed Automatic transmission So now I'm looking for the cheapest fix for the car. I was planning to get rid of it so I'm not heartbroken, more or less just pissed that now I have to put money into this car.

Are there any companies online or otherwise that any of you could recommend for a rebuilt or used transmission? Any help would be excellent!

was it noticeably slipping before this or was it just a sudden failure?

It had slipped once before... about 5 minutes before this happened pulling away from a stoplight. The car had been driven all day long with no problems whatsoever.

I just spoke with Acura Client Services and opened a case on the car. They did agree that the sudden downshift was dangerous (going from nearly 80mph to about 40mph) could have caused a major accident had someone been behind me. I was told to take the car to my Acura dealer to have a diagnosis. Since the mileage is relatively low (74,100) they said there was a good chance for a goodwill warranty.

I feel your pain!

I'm looking for a 5spd manual for a 1997 2.2CL. The syncronizers are shot 4th to 5th. Someone else abused her for 104,000 till I rescued her! It is not easy to find a tranny, though you may be just dealing with parts. You should try AAMCO. They will charge you for an inspection, but do a good job. I would, but I want to DIY and save $$. SO far I have a $700 from the dealer with 86K on it and an $895 from a site I found on google with 64K on it (shipping included haven't started haggling yet). I'll be sure to let you know what I find. I found a promising lead thru an advertiser here, Cherry Auto parts network, but I am calling on the phone tomorrow. (800-537-8677)

That said, I lost my first post I made last night asking for help on a used tranny for my baby. I'll never sell her! When I buy my next car she will become my tinker toy!! Anybody who has any dealings with used trannys, please point us in the right direction.

btw, '97 2.2cl, Inza Pearl Red, Lowered, Fox rims, tinted, cold air, bosal headers and catback, almost shaved (left the Acura logo), but SO much left to do...

Rick

p.s. Can somebody list some sites for ground effect, tail lights etc... I can never find anybody selling 1st gen mods.

Check the Noob guide... lots of different things you can buy for the CL that are interchangable with 94-97 Accords..

also, god damn someone must have abused the 5speed if its fucked on 4th and 5th. Those things are built like god damn titanium.

It was pretty scary how fast it went.. even scarier being suddenly dropped into 3rd gear (I think) as fast as I was going. It could have made for a pretty dangerous situation had this been rush hour traffic.

Hopefully Acura is feeling generous... being that my 21st birthday is on Friday I'm not looking forward to spending my birthday cash on this damn car.

To think that I almost bought a 2006 Accord on Saturday but walked out cause I thought my car was worth more than they were going to give me.... lol I should have just taken the plunge

Thanks Agranado

Your right on the WTF! When I changed the clutch I put BG in for fluid and that "kind of" took care of the 2nd to 3rd grind. Last owner just could"t drive a stick I guess...

I settled on a used 64K unit. Should be swapped out in a week.

Yeah my 97 3.0 auto is going in the shop today with a $1100 quote to rebuild. It was funny because I bought it with 235,000 miles and ever since I got it every now and then it would have a shudder like a taurus does at a stoplight, but I still gave the car hell beating so called muscle cars, but one day with 253,000 miles I was driving my daily 60 mile trip home from work going 70 mph and pulled on my exit. I went 35 to the gas station to fill up and without any warning went all out while pulling to the pumps. Thing is when it sits for a while it will drive a couple miles and then slip out again. I tried taking it to the auction and selling it on a red light, being my dad's a car dealer, but with that kind of miles on a red light no dealer wants to give over 1500 for it, so not to lose money I am going ahead and fixing my baby up. Hopefully it still is powerfull.

Got a call from Acura of Las Vegas where my car currently sits in their back lot. I had the car towed there on Saturday morning where they pulled the dreaded p0740 code.

Got a call from Acura about an hour ago saying that they have spoken with Acura of America and they may be coming to an agreement with me to have the car fixed on their dollar. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

G'luck with that, anything you can get fixed that's on their dollar is a good thing. I'm currently paying about $600 just to get my tranny gasket replaced, on my second tranny cuz it's leakin

Nothing yet this morning, when I talked to LV Acura yesterday he said I should know something either this afternoon or tomorrow morning latest....

I'm hoping it's soon though cause rental cars are outrageous when you aren't 25.

Yeah, they do get pricey. Unless you get a neon or some crap like that.

So are you kicking yourself now for not getting the accord?

I got lucky actually... we have Hertz here at the Riviera and I ended up getting my choice of cars for $149.99 for the week + $175 for the underage fee

I dunno about the Accord... I was going to be getting the v6 Sedan fully loaded... I was sort of talking myself into the car rather than being enthusiastic about getting it. I probably would have ended up regretting it later...

I thought about a newer CL-S but I don't want another transmission issue waiting to happen.

The salesman at Acura was really pushing me to trade my car. I ended up test driving an 04 TSX 6 speed and I'm pretty impressed by that. Looks like that might be the next move I make....

Yeah, the TSX's are pretty nice. I wanted one so bad when they came out.

If you could find a CL-S 6 speed then you wouldnt have those tranny problems. They are just so damn hard to find.

CL-S 6 speeds are extremely hard to find... the ones that I've found are high mileaged and expensive as hell too... not worth it to me.

Not to mention the fact that I want a car with a warranty. I have quite a few plans for the TSX once I get it... I think my CL has finally met its demise with me...

Well the only good thing about this is, after my transmission is done I plan to keep the car for 3-6 months until I get the best offer I can for it, that gives me a little time to save a little more cash for the TSX.

Right now I'm the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Hotel Operations. May soon be changing though... just got called to HR about 15 minutes ago about a possible opportunity a bit higher in the hotel.

Right on. I can honestly say that in the 17 years I have lived here. I think that is the only hotel that I have never been in.
