you shouldnt need the alternator to begin with... the alternator in there is already 100 amp I believe. Unless you are running 6 amps in your car, then I really dont think your gonna need it. I have 3 amps in my car, and my lights dont dim a bit with everything on (lights, wipers, defroster, heated seats).

i have a mono block ppi PC amp with an audiobahn 1 farad cap pushing a kappa perfect and my lights still dims a little. The amp is 400x1 RMS with a damping factor of >500. dunno why it still dims

If your lights dim...you should get a capacitor...they won't dim after you get one of them...

Sorry, man! I dont get home until after 9:30pm!

I did not change the cable in my car. My brother-in-law (an electrician/mechanic) said it was not necessary!

I believe the OEM Delphi alternator is 85 amps (?)

I definitely needed the extra amperage! Initially, I was running two amps for a total of 2800 watts, factory fog lights, CD changer, venom 400, heater/ac, and at night with the lights on, the dash board lights would dim every time the cooling fan came on. This all stopped when I put in the 180-amp alternator!

PS: Thanks for the Prokit! It arrived today!

I'm gonna be running stock stuff, plus venom 400, 2 guage pods, indiglos, fog lights, 1000 watt peak amp, escort 8500....

I was just thinking about getting a capacitor....should i get a better alternator? And if so...how much and are they hard to change out? Or will I even need a capacitor?

I don't believe you'll need a new alternator. A capacitor should be just fine.

However, if you're looking to get a new alternator, this is where I got mine: Alternator on eBay.

Installation was pretty easy, only taking about 45 minutes (that included swapping the pulley wheel--putting the OEM wheel on the new alternator). The most time consuming part was removing the radiator shroud.
