What do you use your car for? Axxis Metal Masters have been around for as long as I can remember and offer good street performance (although they're quite dusty). Axxis Ultimates are their newer compound and are great on the street and autox, and can handle mild track use as well.
Not sure about AEM stuff. Hawk HPS would also be a good choice for the street, or Hawk HP+ or Porterfield R4S if you're really hard on the brakes.
And of course, there are race-only compounds like the Porterfield R4 and others, but I wouldn't use them on the street.
Stay away from EBC... too many stories about hot spots and warped rotors.
If your priorities are quietness, clean wheels, and long life, stick with the stock pads.

Axxis pads make alot more dust then the AEM's
I've been through 4 sets of axxis pads and am on my first AEM's and I like them alot, they aren't quite as hard as the axxis but they stop just as good w/ alot less noise and dust.
AEM's pads are made by Nissin who make our brakes and alot of brake products for japanese car companies. They are great pads and are cheaper then stock and the axxis pads.
