You have to cut it. I havent done it yet. But when I do I will take pics. Should be sometime early next week.

you make 2 cuts in the pipe to install the bypass. Heres what mine looks like.

to be quite honest, i dont think you guys will really need to put a bypass valve on there. i considered doing it as well, but then i realized that our cold air intake fits right into the fender well, and is pretty well protected.

You don't need to cut it if you get the 2 piece model like I did.

rodxx: Since I got my exhaust done you cant really hear the cai, but to tell you the truth my exhaust actually sounds quieter and deeper with the intake now and I like it better.

nice97: the fenderwell will not protect you from flooded areas, just splashes from puddles that wouldnt hurt the engine anyway even with stock airbox.

got rice: must be nice to get the generic kinds in 2 pieces, AEM is only a one piece.

dont buy that shit. u shouldnt be driving your car in weather that can cause flooding otherwise u get what u deserve. its just another way to get more $$$. if it was that big of a prob it would come with EVERY CAI in the first place. im dropped 2" and i still wouldn't put that pos on my ride. it would still take over a 6" deep puddle to submerge my filter.

and if he had a short ram aem they sell cai extension.

DONT BUY IT!!

I guess youve never lived in south florida vxcl, sometimes you drive to work and it ends up raining all day (happens up to 2 times a week during hurricane season). You think we deserve to hydrolock cause we dont feel like sleeping in our office that night as we wait for the water to subside? My car was dropped >2.5 inches before and my intake would be only 6 inches or less from the ground. For some its not a waste of money if you live in places that arent. Thats like telling somebody not to buy all performance summer tires if they live in new jersey where it snows like a bitch and telling them they deserve to crash if they drive in that weather.

You are absolutely right, but considering where he's at flooding doesn't seem to be a prob. Most ppl askin about a bypass never encounter these probs. I'm just so pissed that every1 is getting SUCKED into buying a bypass when they don't need it. Especially those who arent dropped and live in places where flooding is rare. Every story of hydro lock i've read is about a person living in an area where flooding is rare and admit they did something stupid. People like yourself, who live in areas where flooding is common don't even need to ask. You know to get one cuz there is no ? in your mind. Thats why i responded like that. Living in NJ an PA i wouldn't need to ask about all season tires, but if i lived in FL i might.

im get extremely pissed when ppl get taken advantage of by greedy manufacturers

you both have good pts but does the bypass only work if the filter is surmerge.. like it sucks air from the middle when the end is not taken any in?.. i always thought people who get the valve should just get a short ram cause i thought it would just be the same thing... i ordered a cai one piece and they sent me a bypass valve with it..thanks ACP.com..so i sold it to some schmuck with a civic and he paid $60..nothin like money for nothin

I agree that the valve is pretty much a way to suck more $$ outta my wallet--but I'm not taking any chances with hydrolock.
