About to own a 98 CL, advice needed
Hi everyone..
I've been doing alot of reading in this forum, and I've found lots of useful information, and not to mention pictures of a heck of alot of beautiful rides.
I just have a quick question: I'm about to get a 98 CL 2.3 (auto) that has a mere 68k miles on it. Assuming that the timing belt hasn't been changed since day 1, do you think I should go ahead and get it changed? I know that the recommended mileage for a change is around 90-105k. But would an 8 year old timing belt be considered "old"?
I'm purchasing it from an authorized Honda dealer, and they're telling me it prob doesn't need to be changed till it hits around 90k++. But they said they'd do it for me for $340 (labour inclusive) if I really wanted it to be changed.
Would I be able to get some advice from you guys on this? It's a 1 owner car, and it looks to have been well taken care of.
Thanks guys! Looking forward to jumping into my new ride soon!

i got my 98 2.3 CL with 68k too last july ('05) and its still on the first timing belt. currently its got 88k now and i think its still good lol. id probably hold off on the timing belt for a lil while unless you really wanna change it. i dont know how that price compares, but i think ive seen higher prices.
on a separate note, hows the transmission on that thing? i had to get mine redone at 70k. when i first drove it though i could already feel it dying, have you given it a test drive?

thanks for the reply
Yeah... I test drove it twice and the transmission seems fine. I would assume that it's been working fine because it's just had 1 owner all these years. So I guess I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed!
