'99 2.3CL loosing punch!
Hello all,
I purchased my '99 2.3CL, 5 speed June 2nd with 59k. Now, three months later, the car has 66k! Yeah, I did drive 7k in 3 months.
Anyways, the maintenance on my car has been flawless. Oil changes every 3k with Mobil 1 Synth. oil, and only filling up the car with Premium gas.
When I bought the car, I got a motor flush on it and had it go through the infamous SeaFoam treatment.
To be honnest with you, the car was very punchy.
Lately, for the past 1000k, I noticed very easily a dramatic decrease in punch. The car is less responsive, quick and crisp on accelerations. 5 of my friends, who ride in my car often, did all uninamously notice the sharp decrease in performance!! A new phenomenon also arised: my car starts to shake when stopping at a red light. A slight, yet bothering and worrying shake. I don't have to turn the A/C on or anything. The engine starts it slow shake...
Can anyone please hint anything out here? I do drive the car a little hard and revv it up to 5k RPM on numerous occasions. Is my driving in fault here? Any solutions?? Fixable/repairable?
The car is in excellent condition. I also had a tune-up done at 65k. Everything is up to date. I was so worried that I took it to my best friend's Valvoline shop here in Detroit to check it out. All parts, filters, fluids were perfect.
Is another Seafoam due? Something wrong?
Thnx all!

I didn't know the 2.3 had any punch to begin with. to what he said, you should probably get a tune-up, I think that's supposed to be done every 7.5k mi. probably sooner because you've been driving so much.

check your o2 sensors, 87 octane, and seafoam. my last CL did the same thing and that along with some new sparkplugs and it was back in business. oh and on the tune up. She'll run better then when you 1st got her!

are you sure? you probably got used to it and you think you need more HP. But you are using full synth.oil? isn't it too early for you to use it. Most people but it when they are at 80k or more. i dunno maybe im wrong.

For my first car, it had punch to me. Mainly becuase I had never driven a powerful car without someone in the passenger seat. (can't really accelerate fast in that situation)
After gunning it a BMW 328i, it feels like this car has no accel. Your pinned against your seat in the BMW

if you want more power get an 03 CLS6 lol
but to what they said, 1st gen CL's dont take premium, and you should get your engine checked out if you're going to be putting so many miles on it in such a short period of time.

im not sure on what this may be but my accord had similar problems, i also put a shit load of miles on her, just about 6k every 3 months because of where i used to work at.. anyways i found out from the place where i was getting an oil change that my fuel injectors are clogged.. so then i got a fuel injection cleaning and filled her up with 93 octane and i couldnt beleive how much different my car felt, it was back to feeling like new again!
maybe your fuel injectors are clogged??

As for everybody, I did get a tune up done at 65k. Original spark plugs and wires were installed.
On a side note, I know the car never really had punch, but now, I feel, it has dramatically less pull to it. I'm going to SeaFoam it today...
Thanks all for your insights.
Btw, I'm selling my CL.
Going to get a Civic Coupe SI 2006. The dealer has 5year 0%APR next door. The car, fully loaded, 5 speed, is selling for $17800!!!! It's a demo model and has 250mi. Great deal eh?
And he offered to buy my car for $7000 ('99 2.3CL, 5 speed, iPod2Car kit, new paint and new Muffler Bosch Pro GTX) I got a great deal eh?? The guy is a good friend!

Why are you filling the car with premium? Is the engine knocking? Compression checking the engine is one of the first things I do if a car feels down on knocks or feels down on power. It takes 20 minutes. Seafoam is not a cure-all for engines.
