97 2.2 CL Issues

Ok - I wrecked my CL last spring and just recently had the money to get it running again. Finished it about a week ago and then 2 nights ago someone busted in my drivers side window and gutted all my a/v gear from inside (They even took out my rear deck speakers with a crowbar ) I replaced the window today but now for some reason I can't start the thing. I've read that the 98 and up CL's have an Immobilizer system in them but not the 97's. However, when I put my key in to start the vehicle and turn it forward once everything lights up like normal, but when I go to turn it over everything cuts out (Seems like an immobilizer to me.) I don't have a transponder key (Never got one when I bought it off one of my dad's students) but it worked fine until just now with all my Wal-Mart cut blanks I have. Do the 97 CL's have immobilizers on them ?

Thanks for the info man - It is greatly appreciated. What I am confused by is why it worked without the transponder key for so long and then decided now to stop working ???

I don't think that is your issue. I would begin by checking all of the areas that those little faggets vandalized and see if there are any shit f$*#ed up with your wiring. Another thing would be to check all of the Ground wires in the spot that has been repaired from your wreck...im my experience...Ground wires can be a muthafucka!

It was something caused by the vandals cause it was running for 3 days before they broke into it. They pulled out the entire center console piece with the clock and the emergency flasher button and pryed the rear deck speakers out but they disconnected everything at the harnesses. The amps and subs in the trunk were all just pulled straight out but all the wiring for them was still intact (Just pulled everything out from the terminals on the amps it looked like.) When I turn the key into the first position everything works like the windshield wipers and door locks and windows (Can't check the radio till I buy a new one this week.) but it just goes black when I turn the key to the start position.

they could have grounded out your positive wire for the amp.. in which case will almost instantly kill your battery. or a fuseable link.. try a jump start. or check engine control fuses.
