70,000 miles and time for a new starter?

This Sucks! Last week my window regulator goes and now today my car doesnt start. I assume its the starter, only one click when you turn the key. All auxillary works and the car still didn't start when i tried to jump it. Terminals are clean too. Can anyone confim that it is the starter though? Also, can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to start looking for the starter (1998 CL 3.0), or at least a good spot to jack the car up from.

BTW, later in the day I tried it again and now I don't get any clicks at all. Still seem to have full auxillary power.

My starter went out at around 90k miles. Did pretty much the same thing as you described. You don't need to jack the car up to replace the starter. All you have to do is take out the battery and some other stuff I don't remember to get access to it.

mine lasted 110k, except I wasn't at home when it died

I was in a Pep Boys parking lot, haha how convenient, except for paying labor... I would have done it myself if the car was at home, and towing would have cost just as much as the labor, oh well.

Oh when you do replace it, perhaps a DIY for the new forum would be helpful, if you're up to it, good luck

I'd be down to do a DIY as soon as I feel comfortable enough to take it apart. I'll look to do the replacement on Saturday. If anyone wants to contribute any tips on switching it out it'd be much appreciated.

My starter went out at about 57k miles. I ended up going to a place that rebuilds starters and had them rebuild mine, it ended up being about $100 bucks. What you can do is remove the starter, take to a rebuilding place and have them test the starter for you, or you can test it yourself (which I don't recommend).

To test it yourself, remove the battery and starter, then connect the starter to the battery (I used two wrenches) and you can see how quickly it spins (if it even does). Warning, I've heard that some people have had accidents due to the spinning force of the starter being very poweful...

Thanks guys for the help. I replaced the started today andit started right up. I took some pictures while doing it so I'll add a "Starter Replacement DIY" to the list in the near future.

I installed the Duralast from Autozone. I picked it up for $145 and its got a lifetime warranty. Acura wanted close to $250 for their starter.
