5th gear acceleration on 2.2 and gearing
mine is not that great. i think they could of done a better job gearing the 2.2 5-speed. first is to short and second is to long. my dads lexus is 5 speed and first goes to 38 and second goes to 58. when you shift into 5th gear the RPMs are to low and too long of a gear

1st wouldn't be as fast if it were longer for obvious reasons. plus dont tell me you dont enjoy the off the line starts with the 5-spd... second isnt really too long.... dont forget its got 5 speeds, gotta get up to speed some how. and finally the 5th gear.... its an overdrive, its not meant for acceleration. if you wanna really move on the highway, throw it into 3rd or 4th depending on your speed. our cars have little to no power, especially at low rpms, so i guess i stay happier by keeping it up high when i accelerate.
a turbo may help your situation as well...

I concur , has anyone on here ever battled a mid 90's Eclipse? Just an RS nothing special because one of my friends has one and he swears he will kill me but its an auto I am not so sure. Any input?

werd 2nd, 3rd and some of 4th depending on ur rpms are the sweetspots....and an auto rs auto will get eaten by a CL ive done it

5th gear is an overdrive gear
1st - 4th is the acceleration gears...that's why the ratios get smaller and smaller as you go through the gears...and then you hit 5th gear which is a long as gear for cruising..remember what kind of car you're driving and you'll understand why
the lexus gearing seems similar to ours...dunno what you're comparing

i have raced a manual rs with mods at the track if you want the video i send it to you... my favorite gears are 2nd and 4th... I HATE 3RD!!! any mods help 3,4,5 a lot.. intake livens my 3rd gear a lo

i raced one of those new alitmas last night and made that bitch look goofy. at the light he was revvin his engine, then when we took off his tires barked a little but that was it he was already dead. but all of my mods so far boosted low end power. as for 5th being too long and RPMs too low pff. if i get into it im at 4g's or better RPM starting 5th at about 95MPH. then i can just run on til the cut off. 125 is as fast as i got it up to then i got scared. id like to have the V6 but if i have to sacrifice my 5spd, fuck it.
