45k checkup...

Has anyone else had their 45k checkup recently? I just called the dealership to make an appt for an oil change and they said, "we see here that you haven't had your 45k checkup, would you like to schedule it?" Well since I'm at 53k, I went ahead and scheduled it, but they're gonna charge me $270!!! Does that sound high to you?

Someone told me that it was like $700 or $800 or something crazy like that... so $270 seems a little better to me, i dont know what to say.

I didn't go in for the 45K checkup. I'm due for the 60K checkup though... they want $469.00 for that.

hey Adrienne-- i just did my 100K service and it went $1800! and NOT thru a dealer-- from my mechanic---- BUT we changed out everything in the car-- EVERYTHING-- all new brakes and filters and hoses and belts (timing, with a new water pump too) AND all new tires.. but the car ran BETTER than ever afterwards and now I KNOW I wanna try and keep it for at least 250K miles... my 1990 Prelude Si 4WS went 188K and I know this can beat it...

Basically, the 7500 mile checkups are oil changes, the 15000 miles checks inspect a bunch of stuff, and the 30000 mile checks replace a bunch of stuff. A couple hundred bucks for the 45K sounds about right, especially because it will probably be your last scheduled maintenance before the warranty runs out. Make sure to get them to replace anything that's been nagging you, fix any squeaks or rattles, or check out anything else you don't want to pay for that you could get done now for free!

great idea, I didn't even think of that. I would have blown it off and said just go every 60k, but I didn't think about the warranty.

I want to get all the warranty work done that I can before it expires.

yo buy am extended warrenty. im good until 2004 or 100k whichever comes first. all im doin in flush and fillin my trans and engine coolant and gettin my valves adjusted. i got new plugs cap rotor belts etc. at 60k ill get a new timing belt i think instead of just adjusting it. 1/2 th eshit they want to do to ur car is bs n e ways. just look at their check list and pick what u want done. why pay 80 an hrs so they can check all ur fluids? do it urself

Is it possible to buy an extended warranty after your warranty ran out?

I'm actually at 53k... should I just wait for the 60k since it'll be around $500 anyway? I'm already out of warranty, but damn it I want a warranty back.

By the way, the stars flash because I was very nice to soopa and he changed them for me. I used to have 5 flashing stars and my status was Soopa Hottie, but, alas, something went awry and now I'm unknown (whos that girl... haha ok not funny). It sucks tho, cuz I have 1200+ posts now; I should be an Addict at this point. No one even notices that I'm Post Whore Extraordinaire cuz I don't have five blue starz.

Extended warranty: I don't recommend them. You're not actually buying an extension of the bumper-to-bumper warranty that came with the car, but instead it's a watered-down version that only covers the big stuff. Since these ARE Acuras we're talking about, there's not much chance of anything really major going wrong. The extended warranty is an insurance policy--if it makes you feel more secure then get it, but don't expect everything to be covered.

Stars: Just how do these things work anyway? Is it just an automated system that tracks how many posts you have and gives you stars and little nicknames based on that?

i dont know about that. i get all the perks. free roadside assistance and crap. im gettin a new window motor for free cuz of it. i like the piece of mind that IF it breaks i dont give a shit cuz im not payin. no u cant extend the warrenty if ur original is up.

That's true, you do still get the roadside assistance. But they will help you for the life of your car anyway, you'll just have to pay for the tow after the warranty runs out. And they will fix things like window motors. It's just stuff they consider "wear items" like anything in the interior, adjustments to fix rattles, etc. that's not covered like under the bumper-to-bumper.

I reeeeeaaaaalllllyyyy wish I'd gone back in there for my 45k when I had 45k... because my brakes are dying, and they wanna charge me $285 for the back ones.

Oh, well. Daddy can pay for those. It's a safety thing. Adrienne pays for 'mods', Daddy pays for important stuff, like brakes. *sigh* I like being a girl; I can look at him all innocently and pretend I don't understand about cars and he'll take it and get it done for me and pay, too.

I got my 45K service done at A&H Motor (ahmotor.com) since I work about 5 min down the road from them. They were $169 for the service. The dealers price was closer to 300 if i remember.

im at 49,100 miles today. only about 3 weeks till my warranty runs out.
