Thumbs up 2 different answers from 2 mechanics

my check engine light is on. the first mechanic said that it could be your gas tank ain't closed all the way or some vacuum problem. and both of my oxygen sensors. The second mechanic said that my o2 sensors are fine and that i need a new egr valve, canister, and some other sensor that i don't remember. he said just for the parts it was going to be $551, i priced it out at autozone, and the egr valve, and the canister.would be around $240, where does the other $300 come from, i have no idea. has anyone ever changed any of these parts before and if they have how much did yo pay, and is it something you can change yourself. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks

go to autozone and get the cel checked out by their scanner, its free and they don't lie.
and i had my egr valve taken care of by acura for free, and there is a DIY on the egr cleaning somewhere on here.

Pull your codes, if it's an o2 sensor that's an easy fix, if it's the EGR, it should be covered under acura's extended emissions warranty

dont let a mechanic make your decisions for you.

if you have a CEL, or Check Engine Light:

realize that the nearest Pep Boys or Auto Zone will check it for free.

Depending on what code your car throws, it may be covered under warranty.

I've never heard of an Acura CL showing a CEL and no one being able to diagnose it.

Now with a Mitsu Eclipse or Dodge Neon, I've heard of people with a CEL where

it is "impossible" to read the code.

When I hear these stories about how the light is on but they cant fix it,

it angers me... how can you look at an amber light and have someone look you in

the eyes and tell you that it can't be fixed?

If you are an active member at Acurazine.com for +5months , chances are

you know what is going on with your car.

The people who I come into contact with on a daily basis usually have no clue what

they are talking about.

Sorry to rant.

There is a list on what codes mean what on the Recalls list.

Acurazine is your friend.

We love you.

most likely you have carbon buildup and they want to change the valve to make em some money. just go to autozone and check out the problem.

I would go to the mechanical fix alluded to by others. Below is a link to the fix on Subaru's which is same for any car. I used this on a Toyota Celica w/ a persistent P0420 and it's a permanent fix. It smooths the aft cat O2 sensor and eliminates the code.

P0420 Mechanical Fix

Searched p0420 and found this, sounds like 02 sensor or exhaust leak
