2.3 Transmission

I was out driving my CL the other day and I needed to accelerate a bit more quickly than I should've when the car was cold. The gear dropped down and revved and I made my lane change and what not, then I let off the gas some and I expected the gear to shift back up to 3rd or 4th. After about 3 seconds of 6k RPM, it finally shifted up. Definitely took way longer than it usually does. I'm not really sure what it means, I just wanted to get some other peoples opinion on it. I just think it happened because the car was cold, but it's never happened before. Any thoughts?

I have an auto '98 2.3 by the way.

WTF, you had to try to break the 5sp. And yeah, 2.3 have the same problem, accepting for the fact that the 2.Xs have less horsepower and you have to really try to fuck it up... ie: not maintain it and drive the hell out of it.
