2.2cl auto vtec

I am new to the whole car thing, be nice please - at what rpm range does my vtec kick in for a 2.2cl (automatic)?
Also, whats the consensus on driving in d3 in city/d4 on freeway? I drive in d3 for the higher revs but at what revs is it good to kick it into d4 when entering highway? I have to climb a hill at the onramp, and when I have it in d4 all the way I superlag up the damn thing - but when I drive up the hill in d3 and switch to d4 @ ~ 3500 rpms it goes pretty well...
Thanks!!

keep it in d3 till redline! u dont let off the gass when u switch. i use d3 when i dont want the car to go into 4th. especially in 30-40mps streets or when i want to drive aggressively. u can hit about 100 in d3 so dont worry. vtec enguages at 4300 for 2.2cl i think. so if ur switchin at 3500 u are no where near the engines peak power. get it up to at least 5000. thats what its made for. VTEC all day keeps the mechanics away
