2.2 Engine swap...

Well yeah, that's baisically it, I'm thinking about swapping my engine for an H22A. But I'm not sure about some stuff, like can I use my current (5-speed) tranny? I think the engine is a direct bolt in useing the stock mounts, right? Just general stuff like that for now.

Also, as far as places to actually buy the engines, where are some I mean there are some junkyards around here and a pick-a-part strip yard or should I look around the net for one? As a side note I found a JDM H22A, just the engine, on ebay for $1400 with "under 40k" is that a good deal?

Basically, I need to talk with someone who's done a swap, either through this thread or more likely with PM's. Anyway anyone who is willing to help out, just let me know.

never buy a motor on e-bay! you can't measure how many miles it has just by saying that. when you do the swap you need to find a prelude ECU and distributor.

Well you maybe able to get a motor for 1500 or so, but then you will need the Ecu, Wireing harness, Drivers side motor mount, and someone to put it all in for u without hacking it all up. You can use ur tranny, but you dont have a LSD, so why would you want a one wheel wonder. Also the H22 comes with a Auto Tensioner which is BAD you will need to go to Honda and get the parts for the Manuel Tensioner. If you want i can send you all the part numbers for that and approx. cost of the parts, I hvae all the info at my house. The wiring harness you will hve to send out with ur stock harness so they can make u a custom harness for the h22. On paper the H22 swap is very simple but when it comes down to it, it gets costly if you want to do it right.

Tried it FTW!

starboy2nv I'm around Louisville, Ky.

As far as labor goes, I've got a friend that works at the Porsche dealership in Lexington, so after hours and on weekends I could work on it in there for cheap-to-free. I mean he's got everything there and he's working on my other friends MR2 there now. So if it's not EXTREMELY difficult, me and these 2 other guys could probrably do it (one being the mechanic for Porsche).

ShavedH22CL, as far as just parts, how much did that run you? I've got a couple hundred bucks now, but with my new job I should easily have 2-3 grand by the end of summer and I thought that that would definately be enough. Also when you get around to it, it would be awesome if you could send me those parts number just so I can start assemble some good info for when I ready to start.

Thanks for the help so far.

$1400 is a bit high. You can def get it cheaper.
You will need a ECU. You can use a P13 with a OBD converter.
You can do with the mount on your F22 but it would be better with the 96 prelude drivers side mount.
You dont need a harness. The harness you currently have will do just fine.
I dont suggest you use the F22 tranny because the gearing isnt designed for the H22. Id go the extra step and get a JDM H22 tranny. You wont have to go with LSD. Your choice. Not a huge difference. I dont have LSD and half the time my drivers side tire is burning instead of the passangers.

Everything shouldnt run you more then $2500 to get the engine fired up.

Ok, one more question. If I got and intake and headers (plus a new exhaust) now, would I be able to use them on the H22.

I'm just itching to do a little something to her now, since it'll be awhile before I can get the H22.
