Oh, and I finally got those corner lights (peanut) switched out in the headlights. The passanger side was kinda cake, the drivers side with that frickn baffold was SUCH A PITA.... my hands got shredded!!

I took out those nasty factory yellowish things and put amber in there for the time being. Looks 100x better.... I will probably switch those out for white LED's once I do the high beams bulbs as well.

Yea, I got heat exhaustion driving through Arizona on my way to Cali (no A/C). My left arm baked on the way there. The heat was horrible over there. But luckily, on my way to Pismo Beach the following day it was 57 degrees, which felt freaking great!

Just picked her up yesterday and she was a bit neglected (poor girl) so I started out with dawn soap to get her down to the paint. Then I clay'd and washed a 2nd time using zaino soap. I dried her off and put a coat of Klasse AIO and followed up with a coat of Mcguires NXT Tech Wax. I used Plastix on the headlights (they were a bit yellow).

I changed out the headlight bulbs for Mtec 4350K and the side lights w/ amber 168's. I detailed the engine bay and the interior as well.

I got to know her pretty well today and will follow up next weekend with more coats of NXT... Or heck I might just have to teach my son the art of detailing and let him go at it... After all the time I spent on the CL today my poooooor "G" got no attention and she was giving me the evil eye like I was chreating on her LOL ...

great job on the detail. looks like the previous owner already color matched the sideskirts

do you use a rotary at all? I'm tempted to learn the art of the PC, but at the same time I'm scared as heck because one slip and the paint could be toast...definitely a learned skill. I might just mess around with a random orbital, but the lack of speeds really limits it.

Thanks, I am wiped out from the workout today...

I do have a Porter Cable which is a random orbital so it is actually hard to burn thru the clear coat... I keep mine at sub 4K rpms for the most part and use fine polishes (I like Sonus SFX 3) and (SFX 2 only when needed)...

I however apply Klasse, Zaino and NXT only by hand and remove by hand because I like to feel what I am doing to get the best results possible. It is hard to see the results on white, on my Twilight Blue "G" when I spend 5 hours it is stunning.... But the good trade off on white is that it looks cleaner longer.

Are you debating painting the chrome trim around the grill or just the grill? What I did was took the grill off, taped off the chrome and took off the 'A' and painted the grill because it was a faded blueish color. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. I need to eventually sand some spots because I rushed it but other than that it looks good. (Im a perfectionist, its horrible)

Yeah, I am keeping the trim chrome and just painting the grille part black. I will also take the emblem off, tape it off and paint the area behind the emblem.

Thats what I hear... We drove it for a bit yesterday, took it easy and then got on her a little as well. She seems to shift real good with no hesitation or jerkiness. I am going to keep an eye on the tranny fluid and look out for any issues... So far so good!

Its only an issue on the 3.0 automatic trannys so if you have one of those like I do, look for a hard shifting or jerking forward, revving up to 3,000-4,000 rpm's before it shifts into first.

That is what I got him, a 99 3.0 Auto....

You say revving to 3 - 4k "before" shifting into first?.... Is this from a stop light or stop sign? Or going from park to drive?

One question as well, whats the diff between D4 and D3?

I have told him to take it REAL EASY with this car cuz it has some oomph and no stop light to stop light racing!

Thinking about putting a trip monitor hidden in the car so I can locate him and track speeds.... Hmmmmmmm

From any stop in which the car is in drive with your foot on the break until you step on the gas and instead of shifting smoothly into 1st gear it reves up more than it should causing a jerk forward or a shutter if you will in the car from the tranny catching whatever part inside the car it needs to change gears. I forget the name.

Generally D4 is all you'll ever needs. D3 is more power I believe. Please correct me anyone if I'm mistaken.

The car has some oomph thats true, but most cars rolling out these days can do the same thing if pressed hard enough. It all comes down to your son's good reasoning (or his fear of you being disappointed in him) All and all if he does race he'll get the tickets to show it.

I have to agree with ZeroCL don't put anything on the car like that to track him. Let him learn from his mistakes or trust his judgment. Tracking him will just alienate him from you.

The tranny on my CL was replaced with a brand new one under factory warranty I think with 15k on the clock. It now has ~95k miles, and I've just been driving it for a week, but I'm not sure if the tranny is showing traces of the issue again (since this car is new to me). However, I do notice 'some' momentary jerks when I'm moderately accellerating and then transitioning to a steady speed, almost like the transmission is a bit bewildered which gear it should be in. It's nothing dramatic, but like I said...a bit of a jerk at ackward moments sometimes.

This was a recall right? How long was this recall covered under warranty?

Lol.... um yeah but..... You did not see the handywork he did to his 1st car, a 93 Lex GS 300. He was tryn to beat a yellow light making a left turn on an overpass and slid into the a barrier wall goin about 45.... Needless to say no more GS 300... I am prolly not going to do the tracking thing, was just a thought. And heck, if I did put anything like that in there I would most likely tell him so he would make sure to drive carefully.

He is 18 and just got his Lic about 6 mos ago (he wasnt in a rush and had tons of friends to drive him around) so he does not have a wholelotta exp under his belt yet.

so the tranny issue is then tranny slippage. I know what that feels like.... I'll keep an eye out on that.... so far tho no signs of that in this car, I am taking her in on Thurs and getting her checked out by my shop.

I am 17 and my parents have been strict while still giving me some slack and letting me learn lessons on my own. I wouldn't put that tracking thing on your sons car because I am sure he was embarassed from his wreck in his lexus and won't try to do anything stupid in the cl. Just my
