I was reading the other posts and found that many of you are having trouble with your tranny's. I want to buy a 97-99 acura cl with roughly 50,000-80,000 miles. Im in college and don't have money for a tranny. Should I purchase or look on? Can you voice your experiences with the earlier year acura cl's?

get a 5spd 2.2/3, you can get one for cheap and dont have to worry about the tranny

 

and 5sp is more fun to drive!!

 

3.0 has more power

 

but he doenst want to deal with the trans problem. i would take a 5speed over a 3.0 any day, we can always beat you off the line lol.

 

can u? i dunno.. my 3.0 is pretty fast..

 

i don't have a tranny problem. my car's been thru bumper to bumper small island traffic never going over 45mph for 5 yrs, now it's on the hwy going like 100. the tranny is still fine.

if you're getting it from a dealer, buy the extended warranty for a peace of mind.

 

stock for stock stick will eat the auto on the launch

Well if you want a reliable car, get the 2.2/2.3 with the 5sp. If you want power rite out of the box go for the 3.0 but beware of the crappy trans.

BTW: I've NEVER has the 2.2/2.3 beat me off of the line. Not saying it can't be done, but it's NEVER happened to me!

i have 110,000miles on my CL...on its first tranny still....i bought it from carmax and i have thier warrnaty so if it does mess up..i hope it doesnt...all i pay is 75$ and they fix it....

def. get a 2.X/5spd. I've had mine almost a month now, and i love it. It's so much fun to drive. I like to feel like I'm driving a race car.

Yeah, I wish people would stop saying that...their gonna jinx the rest of us that have good trannies.

I think the poll we did here, plus the middle aged women I see driving 1st gens, have absolutely no issues with the tranny.

...OK, so fastvtecCL has blown a few...but the majority of us don't run NO2 and take it to the track.

So until mine blows....stop hyping the bad transmissions!!!
