100 Octane Gas

I was filing up at a 76 station and noticed that they offer 100 octane gas for about $5.60/gal.

Will there be a noticeable improvement? Are there any side effects?

i highly doubt you will see any improvement, 100 octane is beneficial for a high compression motor or a FI motor, if your motor is stock...save your money and buy a new fuel filter, youd probably benefit more lol

I would not run that in your stock engine. It will run way too hot and do more harm than good. You will notice more horsepower, but your engine will not take it very long without kickin the bucket.

No it's not. It's unleaded (No gas station can legally sell leaded fuel, you have to go to shops for that). There's higher octane than that unleaded btw.

And had it been leaded, running it once won't kill your o2 sensors (those will go out before the cat would).

It won't do anything for your stock car as stated. There is a gas station out here by the 1/4 track that has 104 octane gas, I tried it in my stock 04TL for the track and didn't feel or notice any difference. Also, this gas station (Shell) did sell 112 octane leaded gas, but I wasn't willing to try that on a new car.

Contrary to popular opinion and what the oil companies would have you believe, higher octane gas doesn't really give you more power, just resistance to knocking and pinging. If your engine doesn't knock, it's largely a waste of money (I'm a chemical engineer). Some of the ads on tv I see border on deceptive advertising.. the oil companies like to play the game that if the fuel costs more money it must be better..

The Acura CL engines of this vintage don't have a compression ratio high enough to warrant more than 87 octane unless it's a tired engine with lots of carbon deposits.

For a bit more power for a lot more money, intake and exhaust and headers

If your idle is in rough shape try a can of Seafoam... and it's entertaining to watch it work
