Why aren't my steering wheel controls illuminated?

Why aren't my steering wheel controls illuminated?
This has always bothered me. Anyone know why they didn't do this? In my TL, every steering wheel is illuminated. I've gotten use to it and when I drive the MDX (which is the wife's) I always scratch my head wondering.

They dont illuminate on the 05. I've never had an issue. They were probably just lazy to add the feature.

I believe illuminated steering wheel controls weren't added until 07. My 04 doesn't illuminate either.
