I use preminum chevron 91 on my 2010 honda pilot.

Manual says It required octane 87 or higer.

I use preminum for certain conditions. It will shift gear better.

some say it will gain 10 hp.

No benefit. It will not cause your car to perform better. Use only whats recommended.

Did you put premium in the gas tank or the transmission?
If you look hard enough, you will find someone that will tell you that it will gain 20hp - just keep searching.

As stated above, no. Octane only serves to help prevent gas from exploding under pressure before being ignited by the spark plug. Higher performing engines have higher compression ratios, so the higher octane is needed so the gas does not explode under the pressure without ignition. This I believe is what causes knocking. So a high octane gas in a lower compression ratio engine does nothing.

I am not stupid. I know. It is only Honda. I will start using octane 87. Chevron gas are pretty good. I take care my car. My work is 100 miles round trip. I always warm up my car 2-5 minutes depending on the outside temperature.

I am also planning to use Honda Fluids such as vtm-4, transmission, coolant, brake fluid, OEM air filters.

Mine is only a Honda too but they put an Acura badge on it.
Good luck with your Honda, it sounds like you look after it so it will look after you.

I think most people will tell you this defies any law of chemistry or physics we know of. Unless, you've modified your engine somehow.

This had a good discussion, with this this post making the most sense (he's talking about a Prelude here).

Higher octane fuel won't do you anything unless you can burn it. The higher the octane of the fuel, the slower it burns. Basically, you want to run the lowest octane fuel you can get away with. Your cars timing is optimized for premium unleaded, but will compensate for lower octane gas (a little less performance). Now if you had high compression, advanced timing, lots of boost or nitrous you may benefit from running higher octane fuel. In the end don't waste your money if you don't have to.

In most cases the engine should compensate for the 87 octane. Honda/Acura claims low grade fuel can harm the operation of the cat converter, however there is no real proof to back this up. Premium can have its disadvantages. In my experience most Honda / Acura vehicles towed to the shop because of fuel contamination are due to premium fuel. My theory is. Premium is used less often at the station, this causes water and debris to more readily concentrate in the stations tank. This causes the vehicle to stall shortly after leaving. I drive an 05 TL and use 87 octane.

2010 MDX Tech here.
I filled it up few times with 89 octane and didn't notice any difference in the performance or poorer MPG .
