Weird Transmission Issue - 2005 MDX
I'm trying to debug a weird transmission issue in my 2005 MDX.
The D5 light is flashing, and I'm getting the following three codes when I use a scanner:
- P0974 - Shift Solenoid A Control Circuit High
- P0980 - Shift Solenoid C Control Circuit High
- P2770 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit High
I have already done a 3x drain and fill of transmission fluid, replaced the 3rd and 4th pressure switches, and replaced the ground cables to make sure that it wasn't simply a grounding issue.
The thing is, the car drives almost fine.
When I drive it in D3, D4, or D5 from a complete stop, it starts out with very little power/torque, but as soon as I hit 10 MPH or so, it drives with plenty of power. In other words, it seems to skip the first two gears and start out in D3 when I have the gear selector in D3, D4, or D5.
When I drive it in D1 or D2 from a complete stop, it starts out with plenty of power, but as the speed increases, I have to manually change it to D3+ in order to drive in the proper gear for the speed.
Reverse works perfectly fine.
This car is new (to me), but when I got it, the transfer case had exploded, which might have caused some other damage, maybe to wiring? IDK. I have replaced the transfer case with one from a salvage yard, and that seems fine now.
To sum it up, the transmission seems to have trouble switching between "D1-D2", and "D3-D4-D5" automatically without my having to manually select between those two groups of gears using the gear selector (in the automatic transmission).
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I tried for hours to research this, and haven't been able to solve it yet. Thanks!
