WEAREVER Brake Pads

Hello folks!

Well due to lack of funds and the impendent rotor scratch I had to replace my OEM Brake pads right away.. I wanted to use EBC GreenStuff HD as a replacement but this wasn't a good month to spend 130bucks on brake pads so I went with the Best Cheap brake pad I could find.. After zoning my local parts stores for a good amount I settled down with a brand I never used before. I only plan to use them until Dec so I can swap Rotors and EBC Brake Pads in a single payment and at the same time Front and Rear $$$.

"Wearever" sounds cheesy I know..
The pads I went with are the "Platinum Professional Series" best of the best Carquest had in line before jumping into Akebono OEM Series (I wanted to avoid anything similar to OEM). I had good results with previous Carquest branded (Made by Raybestos) on my TL-S So I tried to get those but seems Carquest (Advance Auto Parts) shifted to an In House brand called "Wearever".. Long research came up with those pads being made by Wagner at least the "Golds" are made by Wagner so I think the best in the line Platinums are also made by Wagner.. Nobody in Carquest could answer that and the Wearever Customer Line was an endless multiple option phone fiesta! So I ran by what I found online, Just to be clear these are not Chinese Pads, they are made in India for what is worth.

Only thing is that I thought about making a "Semi-Long Term Review" until I install them, There are no install or my own pictures of the pads.

Price Paid: 50 bucks (MSRP: 65bucks)

Installation? Quite easy, Specially since my caliper bolts were not dead tight as I´ve seen in another cars. Also they come with hardware and grease! all in one package so you only need a Jack, Floor Stand, Caliper Compressor (or get crafty) 17mm Socket and Ratch! it took me about 20 minutes to replace both sides.

First impressions:
QUITE GOOD.. Initial Bite is impressive hands down it destroyed the OEM (Akebono) Pads from the get go, the bite is strong and noticeable right away. I need to keep eye on the dust this first week because it seems to be a CON in customer reviews. I will only keep these pads for 5 months so I really cant say about complete Life Span, But will try to tax them in some hard stops and my personal favorite: Brake Fade in Touge sessions although to be fair these pads are nowhere near marketed for the Spirited Driver. I just want to know if they will fade as bad as OEM do in same scenarios.

Final Thoughts:
OEM Pads have the most ridiculously small Wear Tab I´ve seen ever, Is so small that if you have a stuck floating pin and the pad starts to wear un-evenly from the side without the wear tab you are going to be Metal to Metal in no time. Seriously the Wear Tab only covers about 1-2mm of remaining brake pad material, Brake Pad rivets are higher than the remaining brake pad material that the wear tab covers.

The Wearever brake pads have a generous Wear Tab about 4-5mm into the brake pad material, Exactly like my old EBC Brake Pads.

Both sides are the same and luckily both sides didn't wear metal to metal.. It was just noise from the dying brake pads screaming for a merciful replacement.

^you'll find this funny.

I recently performed 60k on my moms kia sportage. I did 30k... the only thing her kia needs are brake pads...
at 30k, i changed them. at 60k, I changed them again... only this time, I didnt hear the wear tab.
When I went to look at them at 60k, I installed two wear tabs on one rotor.
no wonder why I didnt hear the squealing...

Wear tabs are the "idiot lights" of the brake world. By the time you notice it the situation is past rescue. Check your pads at the regular intervals for a 4500lb SUV driven sportily and don't worry about pad rivets (probably glued anyway) or wear tabs.

When I did my tie rod when I got the car last NOV the pads had a HEALTHY chunk of pad material, Being the OEM super friendly and long lasting pad I assumed I got all 2016 and then some to replace them.. They lasted 8-9 months from almost 90% pad life..

The last thing I expected was to have a low pad life today.. When I did my Axles I found out the sad truth.
That is almost EBC YellowStuff DD lifespan < This is the hilarious part and Got nowhere the Bite or Brake Fade protection of the Yellows.
