Service/Fluids Recommendations

Hello. I purchased a 2009 MDX with 98K miles. The owner has no recollection of when and what was done. I plan to keep this vehicle for some time.

I know it is due to Timing Belt/Water Pump/Tensioner service. The brake fluid is visibly dirty and I will get it flushed and refilled. What other fluids should I get changed?

Anything else I should be looking to get serviced to keep it running for a while?

Thank You.

I did these things to my 2007 MDX, the first 6 months that I had it, with 72,000 miles, in 2015:
Oil

Oil filter Bosch D3323 Plus
If you want a slightly longer oil pan drain bolt, use the Honda Insight part # 90013-phm-000

Power steering fluid (use a turkey baster to get it out and then fill it up, start the motor. Get your front tires on cardboard and with the engine on, turn the steering wheel completely left and right, 3 times. Repeat with the turkey baster 3 times. If it ever starts to leak, it's just a common "o" ring fix.

Automatic trans fluid, gravity drain ONLY (3.5 quarts). Recommend doing the gravity drain and refill at least 3 times, cleans about 68% of the tranny's contents.

Cabin air filter, behind glove box NAPA ProSelect# 224815

(front) Transfer case fluid (.6 quarts). Open the fill plug first then open the drain plug second.

(rear) Differential fluid (2.6 quarts). Open the fill plug first then open the drain plug second.

Spark plugs NGK iZFR6K11 gapped between .039 and 043 from manufacturer. Because these are iridium, do not attempt to re-gap them at all.

It's not absolutely necessary to replace your 3 transmission sensors, but it really helps the feel of the shifting. 2 ea 28600-rke-004 1 ea 28610-rke-004 3 ea washers 90471-pw7-a00 at 14 foot/lbs torque.

Consider replacing your spare rubber (donut) tire, because it is more than a few years old and rubber dry rots, after 4 years. I bought one from a mdx 2015 seller, with a manufacturer date of March 2015.

Consider bypassing the original Tranny fluid chamber, below the radiator, with a Long Tru Cool Max #LPD49221 and a Long Cooler bypass valve, for Winter months, if you live in the North.

Check your current draw, from your battery. With the doors closed and interior lights off, the current draw should be about .255A. If it's much higher, your bluetooth is probably stuck "on" and needs to be unplugged, from the center console, near the 2nd row seats.

Use only Honda DW-1 Automatic Transmission Fluid.
Use only Genuine Honda Power Steering Fluid or a power steering fluid designed specifically for Hondas (like from Auto Zone)
Best to use genuine Honda Dot 3 brake fluid, but if you are changing all the fluid out you can use any good Dot 3 brake fluid.
Use only Acura All Wheel Drive Fluid (DPSF) in the rear differential.
In the front transfer case/gear box you can use the recommended Honda Gear Lub or my favorite Mobil 1 75W-90 Full Synthetic Gear Lub
