Need guidance on pricing!

Hi - I'm looking at a 2006 MDX, base model (no nav, running boards, roof rack - very basic), 28k miles, for sale by owner. It's in excellent condition (one tiny ding on back bumper, a few tiny paint chips on the edge of the driver side door). Silver/black.

KBB lists this car as $22,250 in excellent condition.
Seller originally asked $25,800. Now he's down to $24,500 but won't budge further.

My question to this group: does it make sense to pay $2300 over KBB? I have been looking for this model for a few months and have only seen one other one in all of California with less than 30K mi. But still am thinking the price is too high. Help!

A base model with 28K miles would run about $21K in NJ. I think your seller is dreaming.

I wouldn't buy it, you can get a newer model fully loaded with little more mileage that just my opinion. I got my 08 MDX with fully loaded except the sport package at 26k with 76mile.
It all up to you cause you will be paying the bill. These car will last long time as long as you take good care of it. A base MDX 05 with that mileage should not be over 22k that just my two cent.

Thanks for the input. I was pretty sure seller was asking too much, but don't know a lot about the market so wanted to make sure I wasn't the one being unrealistic about price. I'll just keep looking so I don't have to forever question whether or not I did the right thing. Thanks!

Kelly,
My opinion, look at an '07. Not only does it have a newer body style it also has a lot more advanced all wheel drive system. (SH-AWD). It will cost you a little more up front but it is a far superior system and a lot nicer vehicle. I sell them for a living and I have had a '06 Certified that I couldn't sell. We sent it to auction and it came back with no bids on it. I have it admit it was power blue and people said it looked like a rolling coffin but it was still Acura Certified and in excellent shape. If you can pay the upfront cost I would seriously look into the '07. If you have any questions about them please let me know. I sell them for a living. RHensley@drivehubler.com. I am in Indianapolis so I don't think I will be selling you a car but my advise is free. Good luck and I hope you find what you are looking for.

I have to disagree with this. It depends on your preferences. I'm one of the Curmudgeons who believe Acura missed the boat by going away from touch-screen navigation in 2007. I also find the 2007+ center stack to have too many buttons. Each year I walk several times into the showroom to kick the tires of the latest MDX; each time our 2006 prevails.

I'm not alone: I'm the car-guy of our family & friends and I've probably showed the MDX 20-30 times since we bought ours. About 40% of the time the prospective buyer likes our 2006 better - most of the time the reasoning is styling - they like the cleaner lines of the 2006 and they dislike the generous use of gray plastic in the front and rear bumpers.

Again, not saying the 2007+ is not a great vehicle, it is, but I would definitely argue that it's not the quantum leap in superiority as suggested.

Wayyy too much for a non-navi 2006. I'm in SoCal and I know the deals they were giving on 2006s to get them out before the 2007s rolled in. Assuming he's the original owner with that low mileage, he probably paid in the mid-to-high 30s for that vehicle. Check in with him in a couple weeks, that price will go down.

We love our 2006 - 73K miles going strong
