MDX in snow
What is the MDX like in the snow with the stock all season tires? Please let me know. I really don't want to buy winter tires and rims.
I used a Ford Explorer in heavy snow with just all season tires and that SUV was like a Billy Goat on steroids. There was no stopping it. Hopefully the MDX is just as good with the stock tires.

my 2001 MDX did fine while all the idiots where causes crashes and driving 5 mph in a clean lane here in the south suburbs of chicago.
But I did have to use vtm-4 to get out of an alley downtown chicago though, went through it like it was nothing.

It does great in the snow with the stock all seasons. We are of the opinion that we don't need to upgrade to winters. The AWD really helps you get going and turn corners. Can plow through deep powder.

Thanks. As a Calgarian, you would know about snow, though there are no hills there. I am going to forget about buying winter rims and tires.

This thread sometimes discloses the yr and model but the combinations are large: 17", 18" or 19". VTM-4 or SH-AWD. Different engines and gearing. Numerous combinations of tires. To state that the MDX works well in the snow requires qualification.

Owned a 2010 for 5 months
My 5 month old MDX has been unreal good in the snow - to point of being boring. I've had 9+ different storms that have provided more than ample opportunity to put the MDX through some tough winter conditions.
I've given her hard acceleration into a turn - the kind where you can get the rear to whip out and then steer into the turn to recover. The MDX is incredible - it wont do it. The rear just corrects back on track and the car drives like it's on rails.
Any attempts I've made to get the vehicle's track out of spec have been met with instant resistance by all of the MDX's anti skid and anti spin systems - for those that have driven other vehicles in the snow and are used to spin, skid and slide - it is a erie experience.
Like all 4x4s, the vehicle does a great job of getting you moving in the snow - but when it comes to stopping, it's just like and other ABS equipped vehicle. Take it slow out there.

Drove the 2010 MDX in VT soon after a Jan blizzard. Probably 6 inches of accumulation in an unplowed parking lot. Handled fine and there were no problems at all. We took it slowly of course but there was no slipping or sliding at all. Had the OEM Mich Latitude HPs on.

That's exactly what our MDX looked like one month ago up in VT when we woke up in the morning. Spent quite some time brushing snow off every horizontal surface of the car. But when we got going through the unplowed stuff, we were rock steady, even without winter tires.

That's what my car looked like on arrival after driving for 90 minutes. Tht's not the next day shot!

I'm on my second set of tires. The OEM Michelins lasted close to 60k and now have General Grabber HPs on my '07 Tech Sport. Four years of very boring winter driving in NJ, NY, and VT. SH-AWD is amazing - infinitely better than first generation stuff on 4WD/AWD American iron. The biggest problem is that it reacts very fast. None of that slip and catch stuff. As a result I sometimes find myself going much faster than the conditions really support since I'm used to feeling the bad conditions through the wheel. But it's a nice, easily solved problem. Better than getting stuck.

No problems with my MDX on the roads to Lake Tahoe with OEM tires. Just remember any car - including SUVs - will slide on icing roads. But it definitely handles better than my old Explorer, and we all know the platform is a lot safer than the truck platforms utilized in older model SUVs.
