JDM engines in MDX?

My 2004 MDX (83000 miles, no kidding) had a coil, well, melt, and subsequently destroyed the plug, and of course, the debris fell into the cylinder. My therapist is helping me through this (joking, but this is pretty disturbing).

Now I need an engine. LKQ has engines with 120K plus miles on them, but I'm seeing JDM engines in the 70's for around $1200. Can anyone weigh in with any experience purchasing, installing, and getting some life out of a JDM engine in a '04, 05, 06 MDX?

Any input is greatly appreciated

there is absolutely no difference with the J32 engine, other than where it was made.
the question should be....Should I grab a lower mileage engine for $1200, or should I grab a higher mileage engine for less?

when a friend blew up my J32 in my TL, I grabbed the cheapest used engine I could find...for $650, I got an '05 J32 with about 100k miles on it, or more.
it runs and is a perfect engine!!!!!!!!!!! I've had it installed for 2 years now and NO problems with a higher mileage J-motor...

So, do you want to spend $1200 for a 70k mile engine?
or would you like to spend half that for a higher mile engine?

Check car-part.com, I'm sure you can find one for less than 1k.

The 1G MDX uses a J35, Crabman are you seriously recommending OP to install a J32 (A JDM J32 btw) to OPs MDX?

I think what he meant to say was that there isn't much point in worrying about the miles on a motor. As long as it's been tested to run good & you change whatever gaskets plus do the timing belt job, there should be no reason to worry about a high mileage motor, these motors are quite stout.

Not sure where your located OP but there's a J35 out of a 05' MDX in Michigan on car-part.com for $650 w/ 114k.

As for the JDM motors, I believe you shouldn't have issues running one as long as you swap over your original engine harness/whatever sensors are different. That's all I can speculate since I've never really bothered with them & I don't think many others around here have either..

I have not been involved with a JDM v6 swap, in to a USDM car, but I had a 1.8 four cylinder JDM swapped in to an Integra (3rd gen).

The JDM 1.8 had a different crank position sensor, crank sprocket, oil pump, lower covers that needed moved over, from the old USDM motor. This was half of the emissions stuff and the other half was moving the USDM intake, with all sensors to the JDM.
USDM brackets, upper mount, and accessory brackets (from the USDM rleft hand drive) were needed.

I had a detailed parts list on www dot nonvtec dot com but I can not access the site and paste a link.

No. I misspoke. Replace j32 with j35 in my post.
the point was JDM J35 engines aren't anything special over American J35
