Interested in 2012 MDX w/Tech, questions about CPO

Hi everyone,

New here and interested in buying an Acura.

I am shopping around for a Certified Pre Owned MDX and had a few questions. Many of these dealers are offering pretty low prices for cars with 2-9k miles. Carfax doesn't say but I have a feeling many are corporate fleet vehicles. Should I be weary in purchasing such a car? For example one has 2.5k miles, is CPO, and is listed at around 38k. Plan on driving the car for over 100k.

I also plan on financing this vehicle (60 months). Any finance specials for CPO MDXs? Official acura website is advertising 2.99%. One dealer says ".9% financing may be available" - will other dealers match this?

Thank you so much! Hope to join this community soon officially with my own MDX

Why not just pay $2k more and you can get a brand new 2013 MDX with Technology with 0.9% financing for 60 months.

I thought there was no financing specials currently for the MDX? I might be missing something, though.

I would like to keep it to under 40k. Don't know if this is possible buying new.

'13 MDX with tech's can be had for $39k ish + TTL. just a matter of where you are and what dealer you go to. i know my local dealer had them advertised for 38990 or something along those lines last month. there are a lot of incentives going around including the financing incentives (for well qualified buyers).

NEW. again depends on location and dealer. my dealer had this pricing last summer and fall for the '12 MDX with tech (new). it seems to have carried on to the '13's. the new '14's will be on lots by summer. shop around...be willing to travel to save a couple thousand. i know people have traveled up to 3-400 miles outside their home area (one way plane tix, drive it home), to save $2-3k on the car. it comes down to what is convenient and cost. pay a premium for the convenience, or save a small chunk of change and have a bonding experience with your new car with a nice road trip.

GL.

If you're finding a new 2013 MDX Tech right now for under $40k advertised, it is because it's being advertised minus Destination charge and usually Loyalty as well.

Invoice on the car after current dealer cash is $2500 is just over $42k. No one will take that large of a loss on a current MDX with low inventory and a new model still months away, without also improperly deducting destination, etc. only to add them back. Common in Virginia & NJ from time to time.

As for CPO, if it is a current or previous model year, low mileage, and "Corporate", it almost always is an ex loaner vehicle from the same dealer. These start out as normal new vehicles, then are registered and titled to the dealer, and paid for by Acura/dealer monthly, so they get written down from original new cost. Then when done as loaners, they are serviced and sold as Certified.

Certified right now can get you 1.9-2.9% financing through Acura, and will still be less than new but with a longer warranty. Consider one that may be 6 months old/registered already, with 5-6k miles, and you still have a longer warranty than brand new. As long as well maintained, they are a great option.

^^my dealer has 95 MDX's in stock with tech pkg. and 167 in stock total right now. so i dont' think low inventory is a problem.

there were people on here that picked up 2012's last summer/fall for under $40k +TTL. i'm not saying that you're not correct in what you said...but there are deals out there. even if you added the destination charge it's 40800, which is still a great deal since it's well under invoice. i believe high volume dealers are willing to push a unit off the lot if it meant a bigger bonus from the manufacturer on the other end. dealers don't make real money off new car sales anyway. they usually make it off used car sales and the service dept.

a friend of mine just bought a brand new CRV and got it for $500 below invoice with minimal haggling (this included the destination fee).

We bought our new 2013 MDX with Technology about 4 weeks ago for $40.3k including destination but excluding TTL with 0.9% financing for 60 months. They threw in remote starter, all weather mats and wheel locks. If I had negotiated a little harder, I probably could have gotten them to knock off a couple hundred more. So I think $40k is doable. Acura is not currently offering 0.9% on the MDX, but most banks and credit unions offer 1.9% with good credit. I sure the 0.9% will come back for the MDX but selection may start getting low.

I drive Company provided MDX that is traded out every two years and I can say that we keep them in perfect condition. Oil is changed when it should be and all Factory service is performed when the schedule says. We are required to keep them up and keep them clean. If I were looking for a MDX I'd buy one a company had on lease. My company leases them because they do real well on a 2 year lease and are always under warranty.

Currently almost zoned in on a '13 MDX w/ Tech for 40,800 including destination and 0.9% APR. Looking to have this thing for a long time (100k+ miles) and looking to make the purchase tomorrow. Any final thoughts on the price?

I am also kind of considering the RDX. Was offered 37.5k for AWD w tech. I like smart key access and push button start in the RDX.

thanks

it's a great price with destination. it's about as good as it gets. the '14's will hit lots at the end of may. so aggressive pricing galore. go with your heart now...you've been thinking long enough.

eh...the RDX...despite all of the newer tech...the MDX willl be much more comfortable with an ample amount of space and a little little more refined luxury feel, and the SHAWD...no brainer for the extra $3k. the RDX layout for me seemed to be very functional...it' didn't have the same feel that the MDX gave me.

Went in to a chicago dealer to purchase an MDX today. Had previously negotiated 40.8k including destination but excluding TTL. was about to sign the papers when they added $1500 'scratch protection' that could not be negotiated because it was already added on all their cars!!

Why do dealers pull this crap!?

when i bought my Mdx 6 months ago. The best deal i got was from libertyville acura. Chicago location sucks, they are full of it and even worse is one on ogden ave. I do not understand how they can make any sales. They treat you like you are low life idiot. Try to go to libertyville or ed napleton on kingery hwy. The best quotes i got from those two. It was 39400 tech with out dest.

Went right to Muller Acura in Schaumburg after yesterday's debacle without any hope but was pleased to have a wonderful experience. Drove home in a Black ext/Beige Interior 2013 MDX Tech for ~43000 OTD! Dont recommend McGrath Autos at all for all Chicago buyers.

Hi all - I'm new to the forum but have been reading this thread intently as I am in a similar situation. I am looking to buy a 2012 or 2013 MDX w/ tech and now seems like the right time with the new 2014s on their way. I actually bought a Pilot a year ago and like it very much - but now that the prices on the MDX can be had so low, I feel like I can make the jump up now before the inventory is gone and the new models are less affordable for the next 2+ years. My wife and I have a 1 1/2 year old and plan to add another soon, so I'm looking to keep this car for 5 - 6 years before likely upgrading. (One last note about my switch - the depreciation rates on Pilots v. MDXes are insane.. based on my various searches on KBB, after 4-5 years, the Pilot is 18% more depreciated than the MDX. That seems like a good selling point to me!)

With all that said, I have a few questions I would like to get the group's thoughts on:
1) I'm finding it's actually cheaper to get a new 2013 vs. 2012 w/ low miles - if they are within 1k of each other, and assuming <5k miles, which would you opt for? Does the 'locked' navi sway people one way or the other?

2) I am an aggressive negotiator ... given the dealer cash incentive @ 2,500 right now, I have gotten a quote at 40k. I am in the Philly area but happy to travel as far as DC for the best deal. I think I can get a local dealer in NJ to 39k, but am shooting for a deal around 38k. Am i smoking something or can this be done? (Including destination - excluding tax/tags)

3) Thoughts on timing? In looking around at inventories, there are some dealers with quite a few (30 - 50 MDX w/ Tech alone)... Do i gain anything by waiting until the 2014s are on the lot and assuming Acura will run some continued incentives? What have people see in the past?

Thanks everyone!

1) i'd go new for the money. complete peace of mind. usually the low mileage ones would be ok with the CPO. the navi lock...would not deter me, you'd have to get used to using voice controls to enter stuff in rather than playing with the joystick.

2) 38K with destination...that's a stretch for one with tech. i have yet to see it done. the lowest i've seen is 39 something (which has been seen since july of last year). so you might be smoking something...

3) i think with the way the '13 MDXs are priced right now, they will sell well and quickly if folks are looking for the "deal." the only issue i see is if you are looking for a particular color combo. from the trend i noticed from the fall going from the '12's to the '13's, the '12's sold like hot cakes. i know my dealer pretty much got rid of their '12's fairly quickly by the time october rolled around and the '13's started to arrive on lots. the current incentives right now i think are good through the end of this month. one of our resident dealer guys (beach109) may chime in here to give us some insight as to what could be offered as the '14's hit the lots at the end of may.

Thanks for the insights. I am definitely curious what the May incentives may be given the 2014s will begin to appear on the lot. I'm wondering if there is history with other model changes with the RDX, TL, etc. where Acura gets more aggressive to get the old body styles off the lot quickly. I could see them bringing back better finance terms on the MDX and maybe bumping up the dealer cash to $3k, but wasn't sure if there would be something more than that...
