Inaccurate Oil Dipstick Level?
2010 MDX. I usually check my oil level once or twice behind changes. About a year or two ago it had been longer than normal in between changes and oil level warning came on. Was down about 2 quarts. More recently I was down about a quart and a half after a road trip. I took car into dealer the other day and they said I was down 3 quarts! The crazy thing is I checked the oil right before taking the car in. Car had been sitting, pulled dipstick, wiped, inserted, pulled, oil to top of hash mark area, repeat to be sure. Either I did something wrong, or sometimes the dipstick is wrong on this car! Anyone else run into this? It was even more weird considering the oil warning was not on!

First off, there is no level indicator for oil, the pressure switch triggers a low oil level warning message when the pressure drops below a certain level because it ASSUMES it’s due to low oil level.
if you got this message you either have a bad oil pressure switch (common problem if the dipstick indicates level is good) or you actually were low on oil which caused engine damage related to your other post.
The dipstick is always accurate from my expierence if checked in the same the same location every time. Even if checked at different locations it would not account for a 3qt descreptancy
