How to convince my parents to get an MDX
My parents are looking for a new vehicle and I would really like to see them get an MDX. They have an 08 Ford Explorer right now with extremely low mileage that they are looking to trade in a for a 2012 or 2013 Explorer. I however would like to see them in an MDX. They need the ability to pull a small Ski Nautique ski boat and I know that the new Explorers are all V6s so I assume that the MDX would be just fine pulling the boat.
Any ideas how I can be convincing? Getting them to the Acura dealership to test drive an MDX would probably be enough

Wrong board.
Anywho, let them get whatever they want to get.
Luckily, my dad wants to get a MDX lol

I would tell them to go to acura dealer and test drive trust me they will fall in love with SH-AWD, I know I did. Oh make sure you tell them to test drive the one with tech package or advance package.

Have you been in the new explorers? I had one as a rental a month or so ago and they are really nice. I had a 91 explorer for 17 years and it was a V6 and towed our small stuff perfectly. I personally would not tow anything with a Honda V6 automatic transmission. I have 3 trannys in our 00 Odyssey and three trannys in my 06 TL. If towing was the intent of the vehicle I would not recommend it.

Same, transmissions are not very reliable in Honda's it seems like. Better for them to get the Explorer or even a pickup truck.

When my car was in for service last weekend I asked specifically for an MDX for my parents to look at. They hate going to dealers to look because they don't want to deal with the sales people and what not. I ended up having the MDX for five days and both of my parents drove it at their leisure and loved it. Hopefully it will be my parents next car if they can work out the numbers with different dealerships.

the MDX is rated to tow up to 5000 lbs assuming you get the tow pkg or an aftermarket tow hitch installed.
if that will suffice in your parents towing needs, then have them wander over to the acura dealer for a test drive. let them decide. it is their money and they will be the ones driving it. of course, if they got the MDX i'm sure you'd be finding excuses to drive it and visiting them more often to do it.

"Dad, as an informed consumer, you can appreciate the worth of reliability and resale value. While I respect your desire for a new Explorer, it would behoove you to validate your decision by test driving one of the highest rated luxury SUVs on the market. Dad, as your loyal son, I recommend we visit the Acura dealer to test drive the MDX first, then after such evaluation, we can venture over to Ford for a comparable Explorer assessment."

I actually really like the new explorer. It even has some features not available on the mdx. I priced one out and it came to around $47k and that's not even with the new 3.5tt engine coming soon
Pricing of the two suv's are similar so have them test drive both and then they will be able to make a decision which is better.

I like the exterior of the new explorers. We got one as a rental about a month ago, and I was actually let down with the interior and ride. The interior looks nice in pics, but the materials are still cheap looking in real life. Have the drive both, and they will buy the MDX.

If an MDX and an Explorer are the same price, I am definitely taking the MDX! Besides, the new Exploders have trouble with their electronics according to Consumer Reports. MyFordTouch is cool to look at, but it has a lot of issues.
