I've been running a K&N for over a couple years in my '08 MDX and seat of the pants perception I would say it definitely wakes up the engine on full throttle. I use K&N in all my cars and have not had a problem. You do need to clean it with their special cleaner ( some use just gasoline but it does affect the rubber seal if you don't protect it with grease, etc.) I had a brief CEL show up on the dash after I installed it but it went away. Probably a trace amount of oil from the filter got thru to the MAF, but I reset it and it hasn't come back in 1 year. It's nice not to have to replace your filter ever again....just clean it and reinstall. Don't listen to the ney sayers about K&N...they do the job.

Another long term user of K&N drop ins here. My MDX K&N filter is purchased and ready to use but I plan to run another few thousand miles on my stock paper filter before I replace. For those who replaced DIY, any issues opening up the air filter box ?

Can Anybody share their experience with K&N on their 2G (2.5G) MDX?

I use K/N in my:
- 06 TSX with +140,000 miles, installed when I purchased the TSX new in 2006
- 08 RDX with +143,000 miles, installed at 30K when I purchased the RDX used 2010
- 11 MDX with +103,000 miles, installed at 28K when I purchased the MDX used in 2014
I usually average around +20K on the MDX per year and around +10K per year on the RDX/TSX in the southwest. I mostly see bugs, sand, dust, and pollen when I clean the K/N filters. I clean and re-oil every spring along with replacing the cabin air filter. Zero issues with CEL on the three vehicles and the filters show no signs of wear/tear on the filters after all these years.
I think the normal engine air filter exchange is around 25K-30K intervals? Depending on the dry engine air filter brand you purchase, it can take 60,000-80,000 miles with the K/N filter just to break even if you are taking the saving $$$ route (K/N filter+cleaning kit+re-oil spray). I wanted any performance increase since I live and travel 5000-8000 feet (as high as 11,000 ft) with hwy cruise control speeds 80-85 mph while maintaining decent mpgs.

Thanks Mrgold35
Did you see any performance difference or did you not drive enough with stock filter?

It is really hard to tell since I only had the stock filter for only a short time before switching out to K/N drop-in? I don't have any data other than my butt dyno and the cool sounds the MDX makes at Vtec engagement. I have an iPhone app called "Road Trip" and I keep track of any maint, expenses, gas stops, mpgs, and road trips stats with my vehicles. My mpg average for the MDX for over +73,000 miles is 19.20 mpg; which, I think is pretty good since the MDX get such crappy city mpgs and I drive 80-85 mph on the hwy in the southwest. Getting +19 mpg avg over time in the MDX is a performance plus to me with about 70% of road trips with loaded down rear hatch and/or roof box or rear bike rack.

Thanks, yeah, that's pretty good mileage for an MDX, I am constantly in 14s in city and local highway runs are about 16 odd but then my overall running is pretty low as I wrote earlier (lost in misquote :p)
