I have a 3.7 and thought id post here because engine setups are similar and someone might catch the problem faster here.
My belt started making a crazy squeak from belt rubbing so I towed car. Today, I replaced the tensioner pulley assemlby but the belt still touches right between the idler and tensioner pulley. Any idea whats causing this?

IMO: Idler pulley (Spacer-Washer) looks way ODD, to me. I have never seen, a spacer-washer, seated, in that position. I would remove the belt, idler, and spacer-washers, and compare them, to insure a correct match. The belt, appears to be riding TRUE, on the inside idler, but riding too far ( IN ) on the outside idler.
The belt on idler sit too close inside, did you replace the tensioner and belt using OEM? when I replace both of my TL I have about 1/4" clearance between them.
Purchased tensioner and belt brand new from Acura dealership.
Before applying the new tensioner, I put just the new belt on, and the same problem occurred, so I went and bought the tensioner and installed it. The same exact issue is occurring. I thought they gave me the wrong belt but I just went back to confirm and they ensure I have the right one.
Still clueless as to what it could be.
I will try removing the idler washer and resetting i in position, but seeing how the same problem occured with the old tensioner and new belt, i'm finding it hard to believe the tensioner is the issue
I went to acura and gave them the 38920 part #, they showed me on the screen that its in "MEMO" status which they said means has been updated to the new part which I received.
I just called a Honda dealership and was told the same thing, the part I received supercedes the old part #s. I even had them look up the old part # to confirm
(56992-RV0-A03) as you linked to -- Honda dealership says they have (56992-RV0-A05) in stock, same diameter and rib pattern but possibly different manufacturer.
if you insist, there are two #12 listing with two different part number even its the same part. In your case it either they selling you the wrong belt or possible the wrong tensioner assembly, I bought from Delray and Pedoria for years now and never got a problem with fitting. I would recommend you giving those guy a call.
The belt (56992 rv0 a05) that you bought is the wrong belt. It fits a 2017 Odyssey.
It's too long and the tensioner is being allowed to position itself near its extreme limit, without much load.
Compressor belt # 38920-RCA-A03 is the only belt under the hood, which is exposed, on a 2007 MDX

Are all the same belts but All dealerships are telling me that (56992 rv0 a05) is the NEWEST part that Acura/Honda sell... and this is after calling multiple Honda and Acura dealerships.
My only option at the moment is to order (38920 rca a03) like a few members here stated and try it.
(56992 rv0 a05) is too THICK vs the one I took off, causing the rubbing. If I apply the old one back, there is no rubbing in the same location.
The above mentioned 56992-rv0-a01 and a03 will fit all of the same previously mentioned cars, except the 2017 Odyssey. The 2017 Odyssey is the xxxxx-xxx-a05
That's idler looks odd as well with the Belt riding over the edge. It should be right in the middle the flat part, not over the rounded edge. If the correct idler, then it seems installed too far in.
New belt fits.
Smoke coming from crank pulley so readjusted and turned on. No smoke, but rattling from crank pulley and when AC kicks on, loud whine occurs.
Remove the belt and run the car, it will tell you if the belt is screeching or the crank pulley is the problem. No screech would be belt problem, continued screech would be crank pulley problem
You can, just not for very long as the battery will not be charging, just run it don’t drive it. You will prob get some codes but those can be cleared afterward
Seems to be the AC clutch. Large screech/heavy load on belt when I turn ac on. without AC, car turns over with an initial 1-2 second screech and then idles normally. If i turn the wheel all the way left or right, the screeching returns if its just on without the AC.
seems the belt is slipping around one of the pulleys only under high load rather than spinning freely as it should any time the rpms dip. time to find out which one. could be excess drag on that pulley. try to zero in on the problem pulley with a mechanics stethoscope. maybe warmer than the others if you let it screech for awhile then shut it down.
