CONFIRMED!!!! 07' MDX Lowered on Odessey Springs!!!

so for the past few months me and my brother were looking into options on getting some "low" on the MDX...we were thinking coils but wanted a good ride and a subtle drop....nothing crazy (cause it's also a baby hauler) so we heard a lot of "rumor's" on the net and various forums about using Honda Odessy springs on the MDX but could not find any substantial evidence proving it so we just took the plunge and went with it...and here is the results! i hope you enjoy!!!

first off here is the back spring...
it's stupid simple you have three nuts/bolts to remove.
the shock, the rear sway bar end link and the bottom "fork" for lack of a better term...and there ya go

rear spring installed!!!

rear is done...on to the front....sitting weird now lol....
(this is before we get front done)

repeat for other side....now on to the front!

first off the top hats are located under the windshield cowl....three simple plastic pins and it comes out...

here is the stock front shock/spring....you will have a 10mm bolt holding on the brake line to the shock...take that off, then you have a 12mm bolt holding another sensor on the shock...remove that as well...then you will need a 17mm or 19mm....can't remember which for the two big bolts that holds the bottom of the shock onto the hub...remove those two big bolts and disconnect the accessory lines and then just remove the three nuts on the top side to drop out the shock/spring...

let me know what you guys think!!!!

o and i forgot to mention....my bro bought the H&R Sport Springs for a 2007 Honda Odessey....because he has an 07' MDX...the advertised drop was 1.3" but i thinks it's more like 1.5"

thanks for reading guys!

I looks great, but how is the ride quality? I might do that to my MDX.

It's subtle. Does it handle any different? Are you looking at aftermarket tires and rims?

This is my twin brothers Mdx, not mine but I have driven it and rode in it since the drop and it handles a lot better....that's a given. Anytime you lower your center of gravity it will handle better....and yes my brother already has some niche wheels ordered they are 19"s....not sure on what tire he will run but I will keep you guys updated....and to answer the other gentleman's question, I'm not sure about 3g's

Forgot a few things Richard.
The sway bar on the front needs to be taken off the shock as well. That is a 17mm. The 2 LARGE bolts were a 22mm I believe. I am going with NICHE ESSEN M146 wheels. 19x8.5 +35 offset. The wheels will be powder coated Teal per the wife's specs. lol Think I will wrap them in 245/45 tires.

Once I get the wheels in and get them powder coated I will have them put on and give the car an alignment. I can tell there is a very slight negative camber in the rear due to the drop, but it is barely noticeable and should be easily adjusted.

i wouldn't even worry about the camber bro, my tsx has slight negative camber in rear and it's not bad.....toe is what kills tires, not small amounts of camber...are your rears adjustable?

No, they are not adjustable. But there are adjustable camber kits available. We'll see how bad it really is after we get the pretty new wheels and tires on and get it checked out and see just how far off it really is.

natural camber is good. acura's limit is up to -1.7 degrees in the rear

toe is what kills tires.

Are you going to upgrade the front and/or rear stabilizer bar to the sport/adv size also? I think the size differences are:
front base/tech 24mm
front sport/adv: 25mm
rear base/tech: 24.2mm
rear sport/adv: 27.2mm

I don't think I can lower my 11 Adv with the magnetic shocks. I've read a ZDX adv did this and the ride really got a little harsh with the same amount of drop all around.

nice job on this - you did some serious leg work!

would love to do this to our MDX but my wife doesn't want me messing with her car... yeah right~!
Also I love to take ours into Vermont and New Hampshire for mountain biking so the extra ground clearance is a necessity.

thanks for sharing!

Not feeling the color but otherwise it looks good. We had an 07 with running boards and a roof rack, so that one looks a little "naked.".

Thanks a lot for trying and showing us.

i currently need to convert my Elite suspension to base with resistors on the unit in the trunk, as i have a leaky rear shock and noisy front shock.

being an Acura tech, i have access to employee parts pricing (cost+10%), i ordered 2 front shock assemblies (because electronic shocks have larger rods and all other mounting parts are different - oem are stamped KYB) + 2 KYBs from the autopart.

If i ordered front KYBs, i still would've needed to order top plates/top spring seats/lower spring seat rubber/bushings/bearings/boots/bump stops/Bump stop cups = $380 + tx

i already painted in dark grey the optionnal 19" 5 double-spokes, but didn't get the tires yet. So i'll have a lot of fun working on the MDX.

My tracking number says the springs are getting in this week.

Your pictures show the h&r spring seating like oem on the bottom plate.
i ordered kit # 51815 fort 05-07 odyssey, i had to install the front springs with the letters and numbers upside down because the last coil row is larger than the top plate.

By installing upside down, the top coil fits perfectly with the top plate, but since the other end has a larger diameter, it doesn't sit properly at the bottom plate : it looks out of center making the coil rub the bottom plate on its outer portion

It's like first and last row of the coil should be the same smaller diameter, but my 51815 fits either the top plate or bottom plate, but notre both. Maybe he ordered for 08-10, kit is 51825-2

OK i just compared the pictures and part numbers on oemacuraparts.com
The lower rubber mount from the 08 odyssey is STK parts (which is 07-13 MDX related)
51684-STK-A02
51694-STK-A02

Here's the spring + shock + mounting parts on the 07 Odyssey :
Spring is like the one in the 51815 kit i received + mounting parts are completely different from MDX

Here's the 08 Odyssey :

Here's the 07-13 MDX base model front

I ordered 51815-2 kit today and i'll try to sell 51815 on eBay (because returning fees would cost me around $120)

51815-2 seem to be discontinued since 2013...

51816 for 2011+ odyssey is available, but $150 more expensive....the picture on Honda parts catalog seems close on shape to the mdx spring

Sent you a pm with my cell number Type S Zero. You're right about the way the fitment looks when you go to install it. I had the same worries, but it fits and works, just have to place it right. There is a guy with a sport model on the mdx owners and enthusiasts Facebook page that put these exact springs in his without changing anything in the shocks and had no problems. Check your inbox and text me. I'll be happy to send you any pics or provide more information that would be helpful.

Just discovered this. Welcome to the lowered MDX club. I went custom and didn't use Odyssey springs though. Same result.

Blk/Blk, Tech, Ent, 20" custom bronze rims, tinted front/windshield/taillights/side mirrors, 3rd brake light, modified de-ambered headlights, French yellow foglights, custom lowered 2", blacked out door handles/front grill, Satin black f/r lower bumpers

Just discovered

I just discovered this too. I'm converting my '07 Sport ADS suspension to the non-ADS with resistors on all 4 corners in soon, all parts are on their way.

What custom springs did you get? I love how your MDX sits and would like to go this route.

Just got RV-6 HFPC's+jpipe & KTuner tune, now I need the stance to go with the increased performance.

Quick Reply: CONFIRMED!!!! 07' MDX Lowered on Odessey Springs!!!
