Is Acura ripping me off?? Need everyone’s help!!
I drive a 2012 Acura MDX with 125k miles and recently the car was mis firing. I have my own obdii scanner and the codes that came up were for a cylinder mis fire. I go to Acura and they first said they have to change all 6 cylinder and the spark plugs. Then they said it isn’t the cylinders it’s the ECU that needs to be changed. I get the spark plugs and the ECU changed. My question is they said they reprogrammed on of the keys but I had a second pair of keys that I brought in a day after to get programmed. But first I checked if the key would still work without to being programmed to the new ECU. Surprisingly enough the second key worked. Did they actually replace the ECU or were they lying? Or does the key need to be programmed to new ECU to work?

replacing an ecu for a misfire is IMO a red flag, they would need to follow the complete troubleshooting tree to arrive at the ecu being the problem at the very end. It has been awhile since i replaced an ecu but i was under the impression the immobilizer and ALL KEYS would need to be present, any keys that were not present would not work. to clarify when i say wont work i mean will not start the vehicle, they may still function the lock/unlock commands but without being programmed to the new immobilizer/ecu they would not turn the vehicle over. id take it to another dealer personally.
