Acura Mdx 2007 Shudder at 20mph and 35-40mph

Hi There,

I am new to the forums, I own an Acura mdx 2007 with the 20 years anniversary package (Tech + sport package).

I think I have experience all the bads with the car... ADS suspension failed for the 2nd time, Bluetooth module failed and now im getting a shudder when driving at 20mph and 35-40mph.

I believe it might be the torque converter as many experienced here before but I get the shudder even if I am not accelerating, I tried getting to 40mph and put it in neutral and still get the shudder. Is the converter engaged even if the transmission in neutral?

I purchased a bottle of Lubeguard ATF Protectant and Instant shudder fix if the Protectant does not work.

Anyone tried theses product on our cars and if my shudder problem could be something else?

Thank you,

Alexis

We have a 2013 mdx and transmission was flushed and "shudder" went away.

See the link below. Did you have the software update completed?

Thanks Cl6c,

I did do a transmission fluid change about 10k ago, didnt have the shudder back then... did the 3x3 fluid change. It was only about 1k ago that it started with the shudder... I believe it was close to the same time I got my summer tires installed weird timing but I doubt it has anything to do with it... Growling noise and vibration at only certain speed.

I will try to do another Fluid change and add the ATF protectant..

most people will advise not to add any protectant..snake oil.

I am by no means a transmission expert but have gathered information by reading a lot of the message boards. One theory is that honda's/acura oem transmission fluid breaks down prematurely.

I would not use any ATF snake oil either, just OEM ATF-DW1.

What kind of tires did you get? could be bad? Also could be axles related.

They are Michelin lattitude!

Today it was VERY hot outside and the shudder was SUPER bad at almost any speed when cruising under 45mph or decelarating. When I accelerate i got almost no shudder... starting to think it could be the driving shaft... or combination...

I checked the atf fluid level and it was above max level!! But was very hot! So i might take some out tomorow.

So the lubeguard ATF protectant i should stay away even if approved by OEM?

Yes stay away. Sounds like you are convinced to use it. Honda has not approved any atf lubricant.

Call a local tire shop (Goodyear, Firestone, etc.) and tell them the speeds mentioned and which corner of the mdx you suspect.
Also say:
1. You got it up to 40 and put it in neutral and coasted, with no shudder.
2. You found a steep decline and put it in neutral, allowed the mdx to accelerate (due to gravity) past the speeds in question and no shudder.
3. It doesn't make any unusual sounds, when changing lanes at the mentioned speeds.

They should recommend balancing a tire and you should ask them to confirm that it is not out-of-round.

Or you can move a non suspect tire to the suspect corner and test it again.

Actually,, the shudder is present when coasting and on neutral.

Found the shudder is worst when cornering at slow speed! I am gonna check the CV axles.

and BTW, I replaced my suspension with KYB, the ride is much smoother now... too smooth, a little too soft to my taste!.

Regards,

Regards,
If you reused the Sport springs with KYB shocks it's not going to be a good ride, a few folks made that mistake and had to buy the tech springs and mounting parts for a much better ride. Perhaps that could be the shudder you are feeling! Since it occurs in neutral with the trans disengaged it has to be an issue with the suspension/tires.

The same shudder was there before I change the suspension! so it is not related. I am bringing the truck to the shop today... For some reason this morning almost no shudder at all... I really don't get it!!
