Well the time has come for our '05 MDX to have its 60k service. I got a quote from Acura of Columbus and it is over $800. Does that seem high to you guys or is it on base?

Sounds like you are getting hosed! This is what I found on Acura's site:
60,000 mi/96,000 km Scheduled Maintenance

Recommended service:


Rotate tires (follow pattern on page 223 )
Replace air cleaner element
Replace VTM-4 rear differential fluid*2
*2: At every 15,000 miles (24,000 km) up to 30,000 miles (48,000 km) or every 1 year, then every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) or 2 years.


Check oil and coolant at each fuel stop
Check tire inflation and condition once a month

$800 is a lot of money for 30-45 minutes worth of work.

That's exactly what I thought. I'm just wanting to see some comparatives from what other members have paid for the service. I wouldn't think that it would be more than $200 factoring in the minimal amount of labor time and parts.

60 k includes oil change + filter , trans fluid change , diff fluid change ,, transfer case fluid change , tire balancing and rotation , air filter and cabin micron filter replacement and brake fluid flush you should ask what exatly they gona do ,,,,we pay 1150 $$ for the 60 k in northern virginia if that's what it includes in ohio go ahead and do it

^That's a lot more stuff than Acura list's on there website for a 2005's 60k. Is it possible your dealer just added some of that stuff?

$1150 in northern virginia, $800 in Ohio. Differences primarily, assume, to be shop labor rates? It seems like the parts would be minimal (filters etc); does anyone know how many shop labor hours it takes for the 60K service? I think that the 60 and 90 and 105 (timing belt) are important services, I'm just trying to understand the costs considering there isn't any part replacement. Thx

We just had ours done (it's an 06). Ours included this list, and was quoted ~$900. However I'd just replace the pollen and air filters myself, and it droped to $720. Even with the K&N filter, parts for the two were ~$60 combined. So you could shave a bit off for the DIY. We also had rotors resurfaced (front) and new pads, so the grand total was just over $900 again when all said and done.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess the price is in line and thankfully in Ohio it is cheaper than both No. VA and Seattle. Just seems like a lot of money for minimal parts involved. Guess I'll just have to suck it up. I really want to make sure that the car is maintained as it is a great car and my wife really likes it. Best thing, it's paid for and I don't want to have to replace it!

^^ The way I helped myself deal with the rediculous cost is I actually save $50 per month specifically for car maintenance. I just put it in savings and use it when needed for scheduled maintenance, tires, wear items, etc. For me it takes the sting out of such a large bill and does not put me in debt over it. Because the money is there and saved for that purpose, I can feel better about it and look on the bright side - in that the money is going towards trained experts handling my car.

^That's a good idea! I think I'm going to start putting away $XX for rainy repairs. Makes it much easier on the wallet.

Up north the Type 2 maintenance at 60,000 km/30 month is listed on the Acura brochure as $193.75 and includes the following:
Replace engine oil* and filter.
Service front and rear brakes.
Rotate tires**, inspect for wear and adjust pressure.
Lubricate all hinges, locks, and latches with multipurpose grease.
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
Inspect suspension components.
Inspect driveshaft boots.
At 96,000 km/48 months Type 4: It’s $521.95
Replace engine oil* and filter.
Service front and rear brakes.
Rotate tires**, inspect for wear and adjust pressure.
Lubricate all hinges, locks, and latches with multipurpose grease.
Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
Inspect suspension components.
Inspect driveshaft boots.
Inspect parking brake adjustments.
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS).
Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids, and check for leaks.
Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.
Inspect exhaust system.
Inspect fuel lines and connections.
Check all lights.
Inspect the underbody.
Inspect and adjust drive belts.
Replace dust and pollen filter (if applicable).
