2012 MDX- Typical oil change interval?
We picked up a '12 MDX back at the end of March, and it now has 4220 miles on it. The oil life is still 60%.
I find this strange, as my '06 TL has NEVER let the oil change interval get to even 5500 miles before it's <10%. Compared to the TL, the MDX gets driven on even shorter trips, so I'd think it would be counting down even faster. The oil pans are the same capacity and the MDX engine most certainly leads a harder life than the TL, if only due to vehicle weight.
So, I can't make sense of it, unless Acura reprogrammed the MIDs to tend toward longer oil change intervals, under the guise of enviro-standards (like BMW did, with their directive to reduce their fleet engine oil usage).
I guess the point is- when are you guys changing your oil? There's no way I'm letting it go 10k miles, but just curious.

My girlfriends 12 MDX has 40% oil life and has only gone 2000-3000 miles. It really depends on your driving because it has been all city.
Kind of off topic, does anyon know or have a picture of the 2012 oil drain plug? I was under the car today and there were 20 other bolts, none of them distinguishing themselves as the oil drain plug.

my TL gets oil changes every 4k mi or so when DD. the MDX...the last oil change had about 5400 (this included a 1200 mile road trip). currently, i'm at 60% with about 3k miles (mixed driving avg around 25 mph/tank of gas, interestingly driving the same routes that i did with the TL; it appears i'll be getting longer intervals than the TL despite similar driving conditions).

My MDX advance has 19k miles on it and in all that time has only asked for 3 oil changes. I'm at like 40% before I need a fourth. I do it when the car tells me.
My 2012 Oddyssey touring elite is at 5500 miles and the oil life is still at 70%. I have no idea why because I use it the same as the MDX. Anyway, I only change the oil when the car tells me to.
