2012 MDX Stalling after Startup

Hi! I'm new to this community and hoping to get some feedback. I own a 2012 MDX (previous car was a 2006 TL) with around 20,000 and am having some intermittent problems when I start it up. After starting the car, it shivers a little and then just stalls out. All the lights remain on the dashboard so I don't think it's a battery problem. Seems like the vehicle is too new to be experiencing problems. Thanks for any help.

Hello and welcome to AZ

It could be lots of different things based on the what little information you have provided so far. What I can tell you is as a 2012 and less than 50K on the odometer, it will be completely covered by the OEM bumper to bumper warranty. So why don't you bring it in to the local dealer and let them sort it out. Only down side I see is you mentioned it is an intermittent problem. So I'm sure it isn't going to display this behavior while at the dealer......

Thanks for your response. I just wanted to reach out before I brought it in to see if anyone else experienced something like this. I know I provided little information but that really is all that is happening. I don't know how to describe it except that it just putters out. It has happened 3 times in the past 2 months so the chances of it happening at the dealer are probably slim to none.

Sometimes it is hard to figure out if what you are seeing is the problem or a noticeable symptom of something else. Checking things like:
- drop in oil level
- drop in mpgs recently
- drop in HP recently
- corner gas station gas compared to national brands
- any deposit at or around tail pipes
- hesitation at moderate/hard acceleration
- any odd noises from engine (like a ticking sound, loud air intake sound, etc..)
- what are the conditions when the engine dies (mornings only, after it sits for 48 hrs, below 1/8 tank of gas, after a rain storm, etc...)

Being aware of these things might help the Acura tech narrow down the issue(s). There has been times when the Acura tech did a half A$$ job at diagnostics and they fixed a symptom instead of the problem. On my RDX, the wanted to replaced a perfectly good battery when the alternator was causing the battery to die. I had to insist for them to check the electrical again when I knew the battery was 100% good. Hopefully, the issue you are having is covered under warranty.

Thanks so much! I did notice the last time it happened I was pretty low on fuel so I am going to write down and keep track of when it happens so I can provide more info to Acura when I bring it in.

I had something like this happen in a damn near brand new pathfinder. I got it towed to the dealer and they found nothing wrong with it. They attributed it to a temporary blockage in the fuel line. Perhaps take note of where you buy gas around the time it happens. A trip to the dealer is still a good idea since youre still under warranty.

My Immobilizer System on my 2011 had to be replaced for this. I would start my MDX, it would run for a few sec, and then shut off. I would see a green key light icon on my dash during this. There is even a Service Bulletin noted on NHTSA's website for the issue.

Just go here and enter your MDX info:

Be mindfull of the type of gasoline required. If that year Mdx only takes premium, so be it.
It also could of been low grade premium fuel that sometimes gas stations receive. Try another station such as Sunoco. High octane. See if the problem continues. Then take it to the dealer.
