plug and play. 5 mins max. Used a tiny flat head to pry out the original. Only thing is to make sure the connector pins line up into the socket (had to adjust slightly.
Thanks, Somehow on Amazon it says this is not compatible with 2011 MDX...

Ok product description says it will work but Amazon's My Garage says not compatible, weird.

Feb 2019 - Acura Warranty Extension

We got a letter today from Acura Automobile Division regarding the excessive oil consumption based on oil control rings being clogged with carbon deposits during normal engine operation. I kept the oil from last oil change and I believe we are affected for sure. Going to schedule an appointment to take it in at the end of the month. Looks like we may get covered even though we exceeded the 8 year/125,000 miles by about 3000 miles with the extension, and Acura states any affected vehicles from now (Feb 2019) until September 1, 2019 will be covered regardless of time or mileage

May 2019 update

Dropped off the MDX yesterday to get further inspection and engine rebuild by Acura based on oil consumption test. Will be sure to report anything found. Right now, enjoying a 2019 Acura RDX as a loaner.

First impression, looks awesome and peppy on highway. The touchpad infotainment takes some getting used to and I hate the auto shutoff at stops. I've driven in comfort only, but will try the other modes.

So today, we pick up the MDX from the dealership. I had a teleconference call, so I asked the Mrs to settle up inside. We load up and drive off... We noticed the AC wasn't working and blowing hot air. After I get off my conference call, I review the paper and noticed the tech notated the AC was INOP. We called our Service rep and didn't get a clear answer, so we told her we are coming back. Pulled up and explained the AC was working prior to the repair. The tech ended up finding a loose connector and reconnected for the AC to function again.

Fast forward a few hours, I'm at home and have to run to the post office. I jumped in the MDX, start it up and now I get a CHECK AIRBAG SYSTEM notification 11-11. Not sure why this all of sudden popped on, but it's not going away, ugh. Going to do a little research online, but any tips would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: Check Airbag System is cleared. Yesterday, I looked under the dash and double check the connections. I applied pressure to the plug and it did sink in some more.

June 2019 update

Caught a flat tire last week Friday, so I ended up with 2 new tires and plan on ordering the other 2 this week. I got 3 years and 60K+ miles out of the first set of Cooper tires, was very pleased with them, so I decided to go with them again based on value. Highly recommend the Cooper Discoverer H/T Plus tires for anyone interested in a set of tires.

Also changed the Key FOB batteries in both keys. Pretty straightforward and surprised how dirty the key innards get.

Yes, very much! Better performance than OEM, quiet, and extremely low brake dust. I run this combination on my S/C RSX Type S as well.

B13 Service completed today

At 140,721 miles, completed a B13 service. First oil change since the rebuild by Acura and all seems well. Also, the driver side flood panel "Acura" doesn't show the Acura anymore. It looks like the internal parts shattered.

In other news, I broke my RSX... Flooded the engine accidentally with a faulty calibration that caused my water methanol injection system to activate when the key turned on.

Glad to hear the rebuilt 3.7 is doing well! How bad is the damage on your RSX? Bent rods?

Thanks, yes the 3.7 rebuild had been doing well. Funny thing is the Acura tech said the engine was in really good shape, so I'm sure we will have the MDX for a while. As for the RSX, unknown the damage just yet. I'm hoping it's just a bent valve, but will know when I get some time during winter break to diagnose it.

Feb 2020

So completed A12 service today. I basically did a synthetic oil 5W-20 and new filter. In addition, I went ahead and replaced the hood dampners with StrongArm 6339 for each side. Lastly, I installed some new Acura LED courtesy lights on the driver & passenger door as the logo looked bad in the previous ones. At 148,175 miles, still feels strong and peppy. I plan on washing it tomorrow and should be able to get some pics up.

I also did an oil change on my Mazda3. RSX is still down...

Quick update... Hope everyone is safe and healthy!

Went out to hike on a trail with the family.

Repaired key FOB last month for the MDX

And unexpectedly bought a 2004 TL today for $500. Car drives great and couldn't pass on it.

So I installed the Navtool system today and it was a bit of a PITA. The wood trim panels were my biggest challenge and with the slightest pull, they snapped

So, I'm trying to reglue them back together for the time being, but will have to order replacements next year. Currently letting the glue dry in the garage overnight.

As for the rest of the install, I didn't want to chance breaking more trims, so I switched mounting locations. Also, I think I didn't get what I wanted as I can't get Android Auto to work, so I'm reaching out to Navtool to see what I can do to get Android Auto working. Unto the pics:

What's getting installed

Radio out

New location of the HDMI and USB input. I put it in the passenger hidden compartment. I used a dremel to make the hole.

Ran the batige HDMI and USB cable s through and forced my hand on the back side to tighten the plastic hex nut to hold it in place.

Cover closed... Looks good and discreet.

Aux plug here and ran along the passenger side along the center console floor. I did 6ft which was enough. I'd recommend 10ft to give a little more freeplay.

Here is the wires from the aux, HDMI, and USB.

Everything hooked up! The power harness was tricky to pull. You have to push a small tab to release the bigger white tab and slide the white tab to the left to remove the harness.

I dropped the Navtool unit inside and underneath the radio.

I installed another microphone here to connect to the Navtool unit.

All back in and confirmed everything functions from the stock radio and GPS perspective.

Hooked up my firestick and was able to watch YouTube and Netflix on it! Audio and video works well.

B16 service

I was about 1000+ miles over doing the B16 service, but took it to my trusted indy shop today. Unfortunately, the shop did not have the rear differential fluid in stock and the Acura dealership wasn't able to deliver, so I'll be back on Monday for the rear differential fluid change.

I usually do this as a DIY, but trying to help out with business as the pandemic had caused a drop in business. Just so happens there was a some oil leak and the shop confirmed it's the rear main seal

They identified the brakes need some attention, so I'll most likely do the brake job (2 new front rotors and pads all around) in the next couple of months.

As for NAVTOOL, I've been in contact with bthe service rep and plan to send it back to add Android auto.

NAVTOOL update:

I got the unit back with CarPlay added. I reinstalled it yesterday after reprogramming it. I've been having mixed success which has been quite annoying, but finally had a breakthrough today.

After multiple reprograms, trying different phones and installing and reinstalling Android auto, I finally got it to work. Unfortunately, my SUV battery got drained in the process...

Pics:

Reprogrammed a few times in the car due to not getting the unit to see the phone.

Not recognizing the phone... The HDMI input was still working flawlessly.

Took a break and reattempted today and got this! It was glitchy, but after a reboot of the phone, it worked.

As I got used to the interface, the X started to show signs of power dips (I did not have the car running). I go to start the X and no joy. Recharging the battery now.

The unit was very hot yesterday after trying to get it to work. It did not feel hot today.

Strange you are facing so many issues, we have the same model i think (mine is 2011 Tech + Ent so only Ent is different) but it connected in first shot and worked great except for few times when AA/CP will get disconnected on bad roads. I have not used it in a while so will check if its still working LoL

Yeah, it's quite frustrating... It freezes and it wasn't working yesterday. I contacted NAVTOOL yesterday asking for some assistance. I've reinstalled the AA app, rebooted the phone, and tried 2 different phones. The HDMI seems to be the only thing working with no issues.

If I can't get this resolved, I requested a full refund and I'll send it back.

I used this extensively yesterday on a 100 mile round trip and it worked flawlessly with Apple Carplay, I was using Waze, music app and making/receiving calls without any issue.

That's reassuring and appreciate the update. I'm going to try an iPhone this week (borrow my niece's 11) and see if I have any success. I've read the LG could be problematic with AA.

I do as well... I actually have it positioned in the center console right by the driver side panel. Pop that off and it's right there!

Update: hooked up an iPhone today and it works... So the unit is fine. The issue seems to be the LG Stylo 6

iPhone seems to be working just fine

Parasitic draw diagnosis and fix

So, in another thread, I asked about DRL killing the MDX. You guys pointed to test for parasitic draw. I verified that I do have one drawing (280 mA) when everything is off.

Started pulling fuses and the issue is the audio fuse (#5) under driver. So, working backwards, I disconnected the NAVTOOL unit to see if that was the issue (last thing I added to the vehicle).

Still getting 280mA draw with NAVTOOL unit disconnected.

Then went to the infamous HFL module... be careful pulling, broke one clip.

Disconnected.

For good measure I tested a few times with the multimeter.

Reading when HFL is disconnected!

Give the battery another reconditioning for good measure. I did it a few days ago,but the HFL was still draining.

Hope this is officially resolved! Mrs needs the SUV tomorrow

Yessir... HFL is disconnected and no more parasitic draw. Also had to get a new battery. Trying to figure out if there is an alternative BT option other than buying another HFL from Acura.

New pads at 156,870 miles

So, I ended up knocking out brake pads today as they were much needed. I went with Centric Posi-Quiets this time and they feel great so far. The centric rotors still ok (no warping), so just did the pads and will switch out rotors next brake job.

I bought this in January 2022 for another job and wished I invested in an impact wrench sooner lol. This cut my time in half!

Fan of these ceramic pads and run them on all my vehicles.

Pads are beefy

Quick compare of old and new pads.

I forgot how big these tires are...

Quick shot of the rear pads

Installed

I usually plan half a day to do this, but got it done in less than 2 hours with a hot dog break after completing the front .

I plan to knock out the fog light lens replacements on Friday. I got the new ones in, just did not have time to install today.

Wet sanded headlights and installed new fog light housings

So I ordered the TYC 19600800SET from Rockauto to replace the fog light housing. The driver side had a crack and one of the DRLs failed on the passenger side. Since I removed the bumper, I went ahead and wetsanded and polished the headlights. Pics below!

Had the slowly rock and lift up at the same time by the headlights to free the bumper.

Driver side. One 10mm bolt holds the housing to the bumper.

Passenger side. I noticed that the TYC has the adjustment to aim the fog lights... Hope I don't have too.

Prep for wetsanding (Driver's side). I used 600, 1000, 1500, and then 2000 grit. Then PlastX follows by Royal Blue car wax/polish.

Passenger's side.

Driver side complete. I'm content, but there's still very minor scratches visible. I'll probably wetsand with 2000 grit again in a few weeks to see if it will improve.

Passenger side complete.

I ended up cleaning off all the the muck from wetsanding on the frame and bumper support before reinstalling. I verified the DRL and fog lights work, but it started raining, so will get final pics later.

Buy the 3M kit and use water to lubricate the sanding pads, works incredibly well and quick.

May 2021 - Navtool AA is finally working

So, I did verify that the Navtool I purchased for the MDX works a few months back with Apple Carplay. I finally got a new phone and verified Android Auto works as well. I was able to use Pandora and Google Maps with no issues and control from the center knob.

Unfortunately, the wife did something to her phone today and it was not being recognized... I plugged my phone in and it worked with no issues. Still need to figure out a BT solution since the HFL was causing parasitic drain.

Overall, the issue I was battling was the phone. Do not get LG if you want to use AA. The app was installed natively, but after research, there were major issues with LG phones working with AA.

Its good thing then that LG will now officially stop making any smartphones

Have you tried to check if the AA setup will work as wired headset as in it will allow to use car speakers via AA and Navtool Mic for calls?

Unfortunately, the wife did something to her phone today and it was not being recognized... I plugged my phone in and it worked with no issues. Still need to figure out a BT solution since the HFL was causing parasitic drain.

Overall, the issue I was battling was the phone. Do not get LG if you want to use AA. The app was installed natively, but after research, there were major issues with LG phones working with AA.
USASPEC has a bluetooth that apparently works with the factory buttons for the 3G TL and MDX's. I recently saw it on the 3G section.

Have you tried to check if the AA setup will work as wired headset as in it will allow to use car speakers via AA and Navtool Mic for calls?
Agreed regarding LG lol.

AA has been working great in the MDX and I showed the Mrs how to get into the interface, connect her phone, and navigate. I have the mic hooked up via Navtool and we did several test with the "Hey Google" and was able to say directions to launch navigation or open pandora to play music. Also, it auto resumes music when reconnected (getting in and out of the SUV for errands) which is nice.

I haven't tried any phone calls yet. Will test that out soon.

Nice! I'll look into it and see what's up!

A1 and AC Service!

At 162,056 miles, the MDX is still going strong. I ended up doing an AC service and all is well... freon was low (thought it would be something more severe). I noticed it stops blowing cool air after ~2 hours of driving. Also, oil change with 10W-30 has seemed to stop the drip from the RMS for now.

Can't believe it's 10 years old and it still holding up on looks. The car is extremely dirty, just got back from vacation in SW FL, and we are in the process of a pool build at home, but had to take a couple snaps before the Mrs head to South FL for the weekend.

Pool build

Need to get my other Acuras serviced. RSX is still down (will restore next year), TL is fine, but no AC, need a new amp, and drips from oil pump

If you want a working used amp I can bring my old WORKING junkyard one over one weekend. I'm using the phantom audio one right now.... I found one on sale for a steal a few weeks after getting a replacement from LKQ and couldn't refuse the price.

That's an awesome gesture and truly appreciate it! If I was driving the TL daily, I'd take you up on your offer, but I've been driving my Mazda3 to enjoy A/C.

I plan on ordering a phantom audio amp soon, but I've gotten used to having my BT speaker when I do drive the TL to work.

Happy to Read You're Still Enjoying the X...

I've read you bumped up the oil weight and I'm considering doing the same for my '12 X/Tech. Did the change also include synthetic or synth blend? I guess it's too early to tell if it's helped, but if anyone else has changed from the recommended weight has it helped or have you noticed a difference?
TIA...
