2007 MDX Air Conditioner

I have a 2007 MDX and twice in the past 2 weeks the air conditioner started intermittently blowing warm air. It worked fine between the two incidents so not real sure what the problem would be. Both times when I had the issue the A/C stopped blowing cold air for a few minutes. It would start blowing cold air again after several minutes and then cut off again, stop, start...

It never occurred again for seven days and today just started happening again. Will be setting up an appointment at the dealership next week, just wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone or what the possible issues could be. Electrical? Thermostat? Compressor? Evaporator?

This is an old post - but what was your resolution? We have a 2007 with the same problem. Ours actually worked fine in the rear and mostly on the passenger side but the driver vents mostly blew hot air - although every once in a while it cool. We were told that the freon was very low and after they recharged it they discovered a leak so they had to tear down the a/c system. They eventually found O-ring leaks they said. $600 bucks to repair it - mostly all labor. Really bummed me out to be held hostage to the dealership prices.

A/C blows cold then warm

I am also having this frustrating problem with my MDX (08). It seem to be getting worse and now blows mainly warm air, and every now and then it'll switch over to ice cold air for a bit.

I checked the refrigerant levels and the system has good pressure, which is verified by the cold air that randomly comes out. I am trying to identify if this behavior is from a bad evap sensor, or if part of the compressor is failing.

If anyone can offer some advice for things to check, I would appreciate the guidance. Thx!

My new to me 08 MDX, (which I test drove on cool day) does not cool to well on the drivers side, but blows real cool on the passenger side & rear vents.

Honda service guy says if I'm lucky, it could be sticking blend door not closing fully.
The other (bad) problem is with the part of the condenser(s) system....
Based on what Wayles said, I'm hoping maybe it just needs some freon

bad ac compressor relay, doesn't allow the a/c clutch to engage so you don't get cold air. Common issue for the 2007+ MDX

Well, that doesn't sound too expensive

After reading this fully awake, I don't see how a bad relay not allowing the AC clutch to engage could be the problem we're having...
If the AC clutch doesn't engage & run the compressor, there would not be any cooling at all going on.

The problem we are having, it blows cold air on one side & doesn't cool on the other side. In my case, cold air comes out the passenger side & rear vents, but the driver's side does not cool.

I would tend to agree Alan, but I read earlier how that solenoid controls a handful of functions, so I would not rule it out altogether.

I am going to pick up a solenoid from the dealer on the way home, I will report back my results.

Csmeance, thanks so much bud, appreciate the reply and assistance.

I sure hope the new solenoid works, that certainly sounds better than replacing condensers & compressors

Nope, I have a crisp $20 just waiting to hand over.

Here's the link that has a lot of great info.

I am thinking #4 *might* be relevant in your scenario but one of the master techs can probably confirm or deny.

Well, just an update. I picked up the $20 relay from Acura and installed it, my air is now ice cold and has not bounced between warm/cold in about 90mins of drive time with a/c in use. I am not sold that it's fixed, but this is feeling great so far.

I will see how the weekend goes and post another update next week.

Mike, can you give me the part # or a link to it, please.
Is this relay in the fuse box under the hood?

Sure Alan. It's Part # 39794-SDA-A05 and should be readily available a the stealership. It's just under $20 and it's the second relay from the left side, it will have an icon of a snowflake in the diagram right above it.. It's the relay box on the passenger side.

Hope that help you too!

well a new relay didn't help my problem, but at least I ruled that out for only $20 and have a new relay and a spare.

more than likely it's a stuck door blend motor. it's right behind where your knee would be next to the radio on the drivers side.

Bummer Alan. I can say with just about full certainty, my issue is resolved, ice cold air now that does not vary in temp.

One interesting thing I noticed, worth mention... when I replaced the relay, I sat in the mdx for about 4-5minutes with engine running to test... When going in the house I noticed there was a little stream/puddle of condensation- that I had not seen in weeks since this issue started. Now, it pees after each trip.

Update: my problem with not cooling on the driver's side was low Freon (134a). Added a $15 can from Auto Zone and all is working well now. Why it wouldn't cool on the driver's side while it was cool on the passenger side & rear, I do not know.

This could be by design on purpose. I know my BMW's act the same way by design to let you know that freon is getting low.
